.JUNIORS Well, well, and these are the Juniors. Why I remember back in the fall of ’47 when they first entered Coquille High. Come back into the past few years with me and we’ll re-live the important happenings of their High School careers. Remember? Gay Cedarquist was chosen president of the Freshman class. Then there was the initiation, well, you remember that! Although they were just lowly freshmen, they were very active in school affairs. Both boys and girls took part in all the school activities and sports. Finally, they became Sophomores. Bobby Pingleton took over the duties of class president for this year. And remember the initiation the class gave for the Freshmen? There were several boys out of this class on the football and basketball teams. Through this year they kept up their interest in all the school activities. Now they are Juniors and they were really busy this year. To lead them through the year they chose the following officers: Rodney Noah, President; Donna Lee Gosnell, Vice President; Jo Ann Newton, Secretary; Mae Dean Green, Treasurer; and Richard Rankin, Student Body Representative. The class enjoyed a favorable and prosperous year under the sponsorship of Mrs. Engen.. Say, what’s this we find? Two of the yell leaders came from the Junior class, namely: Gay Cedarquist and Marilyn Atkinson. Yes, sir! The Junior girls were well represented in all the school activities. We find that several are on the Girl’s League Council and in the Pep Club. Both boys and girls were on the High Times Staff and the Laurel Staff. The boys who turned out for football were: Rodney Noah, Gerard Jeub, Jim Mullin, Keith Parry, Larry Wilson, Bob Pingleton, Duane Frye, Myles Bonnell, and Chuck Davis. Those turning out for basketball were: Sam Duncan, Gerard Jeub, Jim Mullin, Keith Parry, Larry Wilson, and Bob Pingleton. We find a large percentage of the band was composed of this class. Those in the band were: Robert Christensen, Carol Ann Creagor, Chuck Davis, Donna Lee Gosnell, Mae Dean Green, Kay Hudson, Donna Mast, Sandra McCurdy, Joan Peart, Bob Pingleton, June Sypher, Marilyn Purkey, Lulubelle Seidel, and Stanley Steward. Now that we’ve remembered all activities of this year, let’s proceed on to the social events. You all remember the Junior Prom of course. The theme was “Winter Fantasy.” The beautiful decorations and impressive lighting made this one of the outstanding events of the year. During the intermission Dian Buell was crowned Prom Queen. Gay Cedarquist and Marilyn Atkinson made lovely princesses. And, of course, we can’t forget the play this class gave. “Our Town” was the name of it and Mrs. Taylor was the director. This play had a large cast and although it wasn’t a comedy, it was a huge success. The banquet the Junior Class gave for the Seniors was very fine. It was held on May 11 and the theme was “Moonlight and Roses.” The decorations were very clever and carried out the theme well. Last but not least there was the picnic. I’m sure nobody who went on this picnic will forget it. Everyone had a swell time. Yes, this class has been very busy and has accomplished much. OFFICERS Standing: Jim Mullin, Mae Dean Greene.
