Outatandinq Scholaatic Achievements For his outstanding achievements during his four years of high school at Copley, the yearbook staff of 1959-60 wishes to pay tribute to Minor Myers. His scholastic achievements include the following: honorable mention in the state for General Science, fifth place in biology for the state, his most outstanding honor in the lStatel Scholarship Tests, seventh place in the state for chemistry. On other tests Minor ranked high on the following: the Atom test, the Senior State Scholarship Test, the Temperance test, the PSAT, and the NMS. The National Merit Scholarship Test iNMSl is one of the most competitive examinations in which the youth of America participate. Minor showed himself equal to the task not only by placing first in our school but also by placing in the top 10,000 students in the entire country. Minor's leadership qualities are shown by the following posi- tions which he has occupied during his high school career: President of the Science Club, Vice-President ofthe Key Club, Lieutenant Gov- ernor of Key Club, President of Key Club, President of the Senior Class, President of the Honor Society, Program Director of the Lit. Club, and Parliamentarian of the Student Council. lt's obvious that Minor's character and personality are unquestionable, however one thing still remains to be discussed and that is Minor's attitude to- ward life. Minor's unwritten yet ever present credo has been never be satisfied with iust getting by, but rather always strive for excellence. Indeed it is small wonder that Minor Myers is the fullest meaning of the word success. Congratulations! ln the picture at the right are Wayne Asper, Mike Peters, Ada Marie Shumaker, and Minor Myers. These four seniors are among the many students from all over Summit County who took college English at Akron University. They were picked for their high grades in high school Eng- lish and their over-all grades in all their other courses. They attended the University twice a week plus their regular attendance in their regular high school courses including English. Upon the com- pletion of their work the students received college credit for one unit of English. The plan under which these four musketeers took this extra English was made possible by a grant to the University. These educational astronauts as they were re- ferred to by Dr. Norman P. Auburn, Akron U's president, did indeed help to forge new paths both in the learning field and the teaching field. lt is believed that this program is but a herald to the educational future, and CHS was a part of this outlook toward new horizons.
