When the Class of ' 59 entered high school, there was a strange feeling of doubt and bewilderment. Four years later, as Seniors, we find that we can recall all the experiences and rewarding events which seemed to us problems too difficult to solve. As time elapsed, we discovered that these problems were only goals that had to be reached in order to obtain success. Throughout our high school years, we have been fortunate in having as our teachers Mr. Tarbox, Mr. Luthy, Mr. Casey, Mrs. Sanford, Mrs. Courtney, Miss Saunders, Mr. Hall and Mr. Sanders. Only with their guidance, help and understanding, has it been possible for us to obtain our goal as Seniors. Upon entering our Freshman year, we found ourselves to be more at ease and adjusted to high school life. That year a few of the boys became mem¬ bers of the FFA. Some of the girls played softball and basketball and a few became members of the FHA. Some of the members of our class participated in die school play. During the year several students left, cutting our class enrollment to seventeen. In our Sophomore year Billy Dameron and Billy Sydnor made the baseball and basketball teams. That year the girls ' softball team won the District F championship, in which our class was well represented by Marie, Alice, Mar¬ garet, Barbara and Ann. Nancy Delano and Billy Sydnor were elected to posi¬ tions in SCA. Next came our Junior year which was filled with many exciting and event¬ ful happenings. About the most exciting events were getting our rings and the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Although we exerted much thought and pre¬ paration, we found that our efforts were not in vain. Our theme was ' April Love ' . That year Nancy Delano and Billy Sydnor attended the SCA State Con¬ vention. Several girls were May Day attendants. Combining our work on our studies and annual in our Senior year has been quite a challenge. Our class officers are Ann Barnes, Margaret Brann and Nancy Lyell. Ann Barnes, Nancy Delano, and Marie Herbert are honor students. As graduation approaches and each member of our class enters his chosen field, we wish them good luck, and ex¬ tend our thanks to the faculty. Billy Sydnor Class Prophecy Carswell Air Force Base Fort Worth, Texas July 20, 1969 Dear Butch, Week before last I visited my brother, Clark, in Washington, D. C. While there we toured many places of interest including the Art Gallery. Among the many drawings on display, we were deeply impressed by your sketch, The Water Falls . Seeing this masterpiece made me feel honored to have been a classmate of yours. Since you did not attend the 1969 Reunion at Westmoreland State Park, I was wondering if you have kept up with your classmates ' careers. Just in case you have not-- Billy Dameron is now part owner of a large John Deer Equipment Company. He, with his wife and two boys, enjoyed the reunion with us. The Rev. Harold Lee Carneal pronounced grace over a bountiful table. Wondering who the Rev. Carneal might be? Well, he is the husband of Nancy Lyell. They were married shortly after she graduated. Guess what? Margaret Brann is secretary to Mr. Casey who is a professor at RPI. I wonder if he still has trouble keeping track of The little Brann girl? It looks as if Maggie will be the career type. Nancy Delano and Barbara Ann Wright have an apartment in New York City. Did you see the account of the record attendance of The Adorable Imp starring Nancy? After much study, she deserved this break. Barbara Ann is singing nightly during the winter season at the Metropolitan. I heard that Nancy knew of a needed replacement in the role of leading soprano. Could you have thought of any better person to fill this role? Both girls spend their summers at Oldhams, their old hometown. Ann Bames, and her husband, Wayne, have established a most successful firm. The Carpenter Construction Company, Incorporated, and have just completed the remodel¬ ing of the Empire State Building. Have you heard about Mary Washington College ' s basketball record? It was the most outstanding in its history, and Marie Herbert was the coach! You must remember how Marie loved basketball and baseball in high school. The other week when I was returning from Paris, the stewardess on my plane was Mildred Sanford. This was the first time that I had seen her since she had won the Miss Earth Contest. It was an honor to congratulate her on the honor that her beauty had brought her. Enclosed in a letter from Doris Bames was a picture of her lovely ranch-type home in California which adjoins that of Gene Autry. It would be worth a trip west to see her beautiful horses. On a recent trip home she heard that Billy Sydnor is now an Ensign in the U.S. Navy, and is now stationed at Jacksonville, Florida. It is nice that his wife can be there. Alice Herbert is now in Long Beach, California instructing skin diving. I understand that her career takes her to the South in the winter season, and to the coast of Maine in the Summer. If you are wondering by now why I am at Carswell Air Force Base, it is because I enlisted in the Women ' s Air Force shortly after we graduated. My travels are wide spread and educational, and I plan to re-enlist. How about dropping me a card with your rates on hand painted portraits? Love, Pat Trader wmm To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them.
