If other classes who came into high school thought that they were bewildered, imagine how we, Cople ' s first Eighth Grade felt. Although our class of twenty-one was granted the privileges of high school students, we still felt unsure of our standing. But we were soon accepted, however, and settled down as part of the high school routine. During that first year Tommy and Leonard played on the baseball team as Eighth-Graders. In our Freshman year six of the boys made the basketball team. We won several games that season. The outstanding event of the next year was the Sophomore-Senior Banquet which we gave the Seniors because there was no Junior Class. Our theme was Starlight , and Mrs. Sanford was our sponsor. Chickie, our class president gave the welcome and Joyce was Sophomore giftorian. Also during the year, 1953-54, the gymnasium was completed. We have greatly enjoyed the use and benefits of this fine build¬ ing. Our Junior year witnessed members of our ' class active in various school functions, such as the play and the forensic meet. Billy and Doris were King and Queen of the May Court that year. Connie and Robert were re¬ presentatives to Girl ' s and Boys ' State at V.P.I. And now as Seniors we are busily ap¬ proaching graduation. Five of our class par¬ ticipated in the school play. All of us have been working hard on our yearbook, THE TRAVELLER , which we hope will be success¬ ful. Mrs. Ryerson has been our most helpful sponsor. The Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom was one of the most successful ever; The beau¬ tifully decorated auditorium, in keeping with the theme, HARBOR LIGHTS , left a lasting impression. The King and Queen of the May Court were Leonard and Connie; Betty Marie was Maid of Honor. Those winning class honors are Connie Wilson, Doris Herbert, and Billy Sanford. Connie, in competitive examination given to Seniors in five Northern Neck counties, won first place and was awarded a years scholar¬ ship to Strayer College. At least five other Seniors plan to fur¬ ther their education. Our graduating class consists of sixteen members, twelve of whom started out together in the Eighth Grade. We now have in our 1956 class: Zane Chatham, Robert Cralle, Paul Davis, Laura Dawson, Grayson Delano, Betty Marie Hall, Doris Herbert, Leonard Herbert, Trickett Hudson, Joyce Lochte, Tom Maxwell, Tommy Moss, Billy Sanford, Donald Sydnor, Jerry Thrift, and Connie Wilson. Whatever we have accomplished in these five years, we owe largely to the genuine inter¬ est and the untiring guidance that our teachers have given us. Mr. Luthy and Mrs. Ryerson have been with us all the five years; Mr. Tarbox and Mr. Nelson for four years, and Mrs. Sanford and Mr. Casey for three years. As we leave Cople, the History of our class as a whole comes to a close; for us as individuals it is really just beginning. Trickett Hudson R. H. G AWEN, Hague HALE WHEEL and PARTS, Warsaw Sponsored by J. M. KING, Haynesville H. C. MOSS SON, Kinsale 12 Dear Robert: I am sorry you were unable to attend the reunion of the 1956 graduation class of Cople. I know you are anxious to find out what each of your classmates is doing in this big wide wonderful world, so I will do my best to tell you in this letter. Some things you already know, yet some will surprise you. ZANE CHATHAM is the manager of a large oyster plant recently established at Tidwells. JOYCE LOCHTE has a fine job as a secretary near Mount Holly. Her work and her two wonderful little girls keep her very busy. I lost track of BETTY MARIE HALL for a while but soon discovered that she is a trained nurse at Medical College. PAUL DAVIS has signed a contract with NBC for five years. He has a job as comedian of the four o’clock show. Incidentally, Paul gets quite a few laughs. DORIS HERBERT who loves to work with little children, is teaching in the elementary grades at Cople, GRAYSON DELANO who served as page in the Senate during his school days, is now Secretary of State of Virginia. TOMMY MOSS has completed his college work and now teaches physical education at the University of Richmond. LAURA DAWSON is secretary to DONALD SYDNOR who is the head of a large Insurance Agency near Washington. TOMMY MAXWELL who recently returned from the Air Force operates a large farm near Oldhams. JERRY THRIFT is a special agent for the F. B. I. in Washington. His quiet way has won him many friends. CONNIE WILSON is a typist for her father and husband who drill wells in all sections of the country. Inci¬ dentally, her twin boys are already looking forward to the Marines. BILLY SANFORD is a jet pilot in the U. S. Marine Corps. Occasionally he is seen with his wife and two children motoring to Oldhams. Robert, I heard that as engineers you and TRICKETT HUDSON have been assigned to build a large sky¬ scraper near Warsaw. Best of luck, Men. Now that you know what each of us is doing, I must return to my duties as Sergeant in the United States Army. Sincerely, Leonard Herbert Sponsored by: POTOMAC SUPPLY CO. Kinsale 13 ' TiJill and 7e fame tt We, the class of nineteen hundred fifty-six, do hereby make and declare this to be our last will and testament, duly witnessed by the following officers of the Senior Class. JERRY THRIFT leaves his quiet nature to George D. English. ROBERT CRALLE leaves his curls to Alice Herbert. TRICKETT HUDSON leaves his excess energy to Johnny Nelson. BILLY SANFORD leaves his good grooming to Brooks Arnest. ZANE CHATHAM leaves his blazing fast ball to Bobby Atwill. DONALD SYDNOR leaves his file of excuses to Wayne Balderson, and his first go at the sports page to Bobby Nelson. TOMMY MAXWELL leaves. Period. GRAYSON DELANO leaves his chair in County Band to Katherine Hudson. PAUL DAVIS leaves his speed record to Donnie Ray Withers. DORIS HERBERT leaves her quiet way to Mary Ball Massey. JOYCE LOCHTE leaves her bubbly giggle to Nancy Lyell. CONNIE WILSON leaves her chewing gum, borrowed from Leo and Tommy, to Mr. Casey. BETTY MARIE HALL leaves Bob but not for long. LAURA DAWSON leaves her record of Will you, William? by Janice Martin to Ann Thrift. The Senior Class leaves its good will and good wishes to all the future Seniors at Cople. Sponsored by: W. D.
