“Our class of fifteen, graduating In 1951, Is eagerly awaiting the arrival of JUne, but we shall always remember our happy school days. We, a class of twenty six girls and boys, came Into high school from Mrs. Douglas ' seventh grade very excited and eager for the priv¬ ileges of high school students. After two or three weeks of asking questions and finding our class rooms, we settled down to work. During our high school years we have had ten teachers. It has been our great fortune to have Mr. Luthy as our principal all through high school; also Mrs. Ryerson, Mrs. Hudson and Mr. Hudson. Mrs. Norris, who left during our junior year, was re¬ placed by Mrs. Tayloe, Mr. Lowder was our home room teacher during our freshman year and Miss Bouldin took his place in our sophomore year. Last year Mr. Casey came to teach the commercial course and Mr. Anderson came this year to replace Mrs. Tayloe in the freshman room. At the beginning of our freshman year we started using the new cafeteria. Many of the girls sang in Glee Club and some of the boys were Initiated into the F. F. A. Club. The girls of the class will long remember our initiation into the Home Economics Club during our sophomore year. Also that same year our first annual in several years was put out under the direction of Miss Bouldin. Ralph Davis entered the public speaking contest sponsored by The Virginia Bankers Association and won third place. Marianne Hundley took part in a one-act play directed by Mrs. Ryerson. The play was pre¬ sented at Fredericksburg and won third place. The outstanding event of our Junior year was our Junior-Senior Banquet which was held in April, sponsored by Mrs. Hudson. Shirley Cusick, our class president, gave the welcome and Effie Sydnor was Junior giftorian. A musical sketch was presented by Alice Fallin, Laura Hall, Margie Causey, and Joan Coates. Ruby Sisson and Shirley Cusick also provided entertainment by tap dancing. Those who won honors in the public speaking contest that year were: Marianne Hundley, second place and Ralph Davis, third place. Our junior year was also an important year in athletics, for the boys, coached by Mr. Hudson won several baseball games and the girls, coached by Mrs. Tayloe and Miss Bouldin, were undefeated and won the girls softball trophy for District F.. We are proud to claim Laura Hall and Sarah Bailey who played in the cham¬ pionship game. Clay Straughan and Jack Boyce have also taken a leading part in all sports. From our original twenty six who entered high school, we now have fifteen seniors; Eleanor Anthony, Sarah Bailey, Jack Boyce, Margie Causey, Joan Coates, Ralph Davis, Laura Hall, Alice Fallin, Shirley Cusick, Landon Hundley, Marianne Hundley, Clay Straughan, Edna Trader, Ruby Sisson, and Effie Sydnor. The highlights of our senior year have been our senior play, Melody Jones”, which was presented in December under the direction of Mr. Anderson; our annual, The Traveller , being published under Miss Bouldin ' s direction; and the S. C. A. which has functioned successfully with Mrs. Ryerson as sponsor. The boys and girls basketball teams were organized with Mr. Anderson coaching the boys and Miss Bouldin the girls. Although they were unable to claim any victories, they did roll up some creditable scores for first year players. When our commencement parts were given out it was unusual that there were two first place winners, Marianne Hundley and Edna Trader. For the past four years there have been many improvements in the appearance of the school. New fluorescent lights installed in all of the classrooms, and a new stage curtain has been purchased. During our junior year the commericial department was added with fourteen type¬ writers and fourteen new tables. This has been a great help to those interested in business. We bought a new record player with the profits from the magazine drive, and a tape recorder was given to the school by
