Basketball A highly praised varsity team began the season with several close games causing much excitement and many jangled nerves. The preliminary games were all ours. Except for Whitehall, which caused the worst of all nerve conditions by inflicting a one point loss. In spite of this fine pre-season start, the league opening was disappointing, yet after several other games the team settled down and brought home the bacon, very greatly sought after victories. The second half of league competition was a different story in that we were continually among the top few all the way. The team worked smoothly and uniformly. For example, upon closing the season with Wilson Boro, we had a terrific battle, defeating them by a one point margin in the closing seconds of the game. We entered the Class C Playoffs and conquered Cass Twp. for the District 11 title, but our quest for the Class C State Title was stamped out by a towering Jenkintown aggregation. We are proud of our team and would say they were quite successful. SITTING: J. Toth, G. Trively and J. ger; R. Sommers, W. Heller, E. -captains; J. Orban, SL Kropf. STANDING: T. Ritter, Mana-r. Junior Varsity SITTING: B. Korsak, R. Rinker, R. Koehler, D. Miller, J. Churetta, L. Schaffer, R. Miller. STANDING: J. Betz, J. Bodnar, S. Schrantz, H. Needham, J. Klucsarits, R. Gorr, Mr. L. Carter, Coach. With the entire first team of a year ago on the varsity squad, the J.V. basketball outlook appeared gloomy. However, the boys ignored this morbid prospect and exhibited a fine brand of basketball. The season was marked with several bumps and rough times but the Baby Wildcats proved that they had both stamina and basketball savy. As the season gradually came to a close, the wildcat yearlings had produced a neat but not gaudy 12-9 record. Here's hoping they continue to carry their experience and talent into their future varsity years.
