I’kace at Any Price “What’s the shape of the earth?” asked the teacher calling upon Willie. “Round.” “How do you know its round?” “All right” said Willie, “its square then, f don’t want to start any argument about it.” A tramp knocked at a kitchen door and said : “Please, kind lady. I'm a sick man. The doctor gimme this medicine, hut I need something to take with it.” The lady was ready to help. “Poor fellow,” she said, “do you want a spoon and a plass of water?” She tramp answered: “No. mum I wouldn’t trouble you hut this medicine has to he taken after meals. Have you got a meal handy?” “So you asked Geraldine to marry you?” “Yes, hut I didn’t have any luck, she asked me if I had any prospects.” “Why didn’t you tell her about your rich uncle?” “I did, hang it all! Geraldine’s ray aunt now.” Traffic Cop—“Say you! Didn’t you see me wave at you?” Mirandy—“Yes, you fresh thing and if Henry were here, he’d paste you one for it.” A dentist went fishing and was disgusted at landing a large catfish. He seized the beast firmly around its waist and began to work the hook out. Quite automatically and with his usual air of courteous firmness lie bespoke the fish. “Open wide,” he said. 31

The professor had written on the back of a student’s paper: “Please write more legibly.” The next day the student went to the desk and asked: Professor what is that you wrote on the back of my theme?” ''“Father,” said a youngster one evening, “the teacher is very interested in you.” “How do you know?” asked father. “Because when I got all my sums wrong today she said, ‘I wonder what sort of a father you have?’ ” Daughter (at the end of a lengthy musical composition) — Isn’t it too bad, daddy the man who wrote lliis piece died two weeks ago.” Father—“Did they find the murderer?” Lawyer—“You say your wife attacked you with a death dealing weapon. What was it?” Little Todd—“A tlv swatter.” 'Teacher (to class)—“Who can tell how we know its winter?” Little Louise—“I know teacher.” Teacher—“All right, tell us.” Little Louise—“I’ve got cold feet.” ■ “Who discovered America?” “Ohio,” replied the little girl. “No, Columbus discovered America.” “Yes’in, Columbus was his first name.” “Johnny What do you mean by coming to school with your hair in such a disgraceful condition?” “No comb, mum!” “Can’t you use your father’s comb?” “No hair, mum?” He—“Great heavens woman! Do you think I am made of money?” She—“I wish you were, I could get you changed then.” Waiter (at Grab and Grunt)—“.Alilke or water?” Customer—“Don’t tell me please; let me guess.” Seaton—“Did you hear that Harry Beidelman, ’25, was molted by neighbors for phoning?” Wallace—“No, how could that be?” 22
