ORATORICAL CONTEST SPEAKERS Catherine Peters Ruth Balliet Marguerite Knerr Raymond Beltz Edwin Trively Robert Deily RAT )R 1CA L ('( NTEST The Seventh Annual Oratorical Contest of the Coplay High School was held in the main auditorium of the Trinity Reformed Church on April ( , 1The eonte t proved a success and was largely attended. There were two prizes for the occasion; Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Bigley being the donors of the boy’s prize of five dollars in gold, and (lie Coplay National Bank being the donors of the girl’s prize of five dollars in gold. The girl’s prize was won by Catherine Peters. Catherine Peters also being chosen as the C. II. S. representative at the County Contest, while the boy s prize was won by Raymond Beltz. There were six speakers, all of them delivering their speeches well. Music was furnished by the C. H. S. Orchestra. The program was presented as follows: Music .................................. Christman and H. Wohlman. ATHLETICS 1 liis Spring htere was organized in the Coplay High School, a base ball team, the first team to be organized in three years. The lineup was: Molden Hallman, C Robert Deily, P; SS Edwin Trively, IB Charles Rodgers, 2B Charles Moritz, P; SS Raymond Reitz, 2B Raymond Rodgers, RF Kermit Ivunkle, LF James Peters, CF The team played four games and lost all of them but one to their opponents. The score for each game was as follows: C. H. S.—7.Whitehall H. S.—8 C. H. S.—1.Catasauqua H. S.—12 C. H. S.—2..Northampton H. S.—9 C. H. S.—»;.Northampton H. S.—5 Home Economics as a subject for study, was introduced into the Coplay schools through the efforts of Supt. Prin. Shetlock, who, seeing the work that was being done by the Junior Red Cross tor the comfort of the “Roys” in camp and abroad, conceived the idea of having the pupils of High and Junior High do their bit. and succeeded in having a period set apart each day for sewing and knitting. This idea worked out so successfully that after there was no 24
