A V F pw Y The yearbook at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College had its beginning many years ago. The first year- book at Co-Lin was published in 1925 by the Copiah-Lincoln High School Senior class. The yearbook was then named THE CO-LIN. In 1934 Simpson County joined in support of Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. THE CO-LINwas then re- named the TRILLIUM after the three supporting counties: Copiah, Lincoln, and Simpson. The Trillium is a flower that is a native of North America. The parts of this large flower usually come in threes. The flower and the plant are both extremely vari- able. There are approximately twenty-eight species of the Trilli- um. They range in color from white to pink, red, purple, and yel- low. The three parts of the Trilli- um represent the three counties that first supported Copiah-Lin- coln Junior College. ff- vi? Mary Clark of Bogue Chitto and Janie West of Brookhaven, Co-Lin art students of Tom Ross, were the designers of the monument. Dr. Billy Thames, Co-Lin presi- dent, welcomed a group on Memo- rial Day, May 26, to the dedication ceremonies for the monument. The colors were presented by Al- ton Ricks, dean of students at Co- Lin, and a group of Boy Scouts. The Rev. Eugene Horton, pastor of Decell Memorial United Meth- odist Church in Wesson, brought the invocation, and Greg Long, di- rector of choir activities at Co- Lin, sang the national anthem. In- troductions of special guests were made by Dr. Howell Garner, dean of instruction at Co-Lin. The president of the Copiah- Lincoln Foundation Inc., Lester Furr, paid tribute to those being memorialized followed by Burlian Walker who read the names of 54 Copiah-Lincoln students who were killed or missing in action during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam Operation. The director of the Baptist Stu- dent Union at Co-Lin, Rev. Roy Smith, gave the benediction, and chairperson of the fine arts divi- sion and band director, Stanley W. Stewart, played taps. A reception in the Memorial Building followed the dedication. N., , 1 P Q ,. S if rf W K ' ' .. S' ' 'ggi F QQ, X ig 2 'im Wigs Q3 'F' K: t -.ILL . N -M -sir lx. K, 'fqnnunvulln 1 I 4 gf.. Seems like yesterday we were preparing for the Trilli- um Beauty Pageant, taking road trips to Biloxi or New Orleans, wearing torn, faded jeans, Coca- Cola clothes or Swatch watches, starting construction on the new dormitories, attending conven- tions, making late night visits to the truckstop, participating in Christ Focus Week, jamming at The Monkees, Lionel Richie, or David Lee Roth concerts, and chewing the famous state fair taf- fy. All these things were part of our lives that made 1986-87 A YEAR TO REMEMBER! -rw- s .' E- A 15 Dr. Billy Thames shows dedication. Students meeting during the week have been seen regressing back into their childhood with songs like Little Cabin in the Woods and Going on a Squiggy Hunt. The BSU also has its serious moments. The stage was decorated with top hats and balloons, and lined with ferns, add- ing to the theme which was A Touch of Class. Thirty contestants entered the pageant competing for the title of Co-Lin's Most Beautiful. COPIAITLINCOLN JUNIOR COLLEGE WESSON, MISSISSIPPI 39191 Co-Lin Trillium The final shipment of the yearbook is due and the editors are busy in the workroom, while the first snow in three years is falling outside. This is like an open invitation to come out and play. Just a few more minutes, we keep saying. What will we do with all the free time and sleep that we will have. We could always use it to do extra studying - never! These things and many more have gone into the production of this yearbook. We hope this yearbook has captured your many memories of Co-Lin. Things happen during your years here that will never be forgotten. Co-Lin alumni will always remember things like sports, roommates, trips to the truckstop, and roadtrips - of course. Some of us will be leaving Co-Lin this year and we hope we have captured in this yearbook all the great times you have had here. After all this is 1987 - A Year to Remember. There are many special people who have helped us this year such as Don Jackson, our own photographers, and the Trillium staff. We would also like to thank the associate editors of the Trillium staff, Chris Conn and Jill Rogers, for all the extra time and effort they have spent helping us. A special thanks goes to Burlian Walker. Burlian's wit, helpfulness, and especially his patience has meant a lot to us as editors. He has kept us going. Through this yearbook we have tried to capture the highlights of this year. In years to come we hope you can look back on 1987 - A Year to Remember, and smile. fl GK gl- OJMWJEUE' fm W Sz. pf , . f W LQSZQ' N uitir The Piace to Be.
