Dr. Billy Thames works hard for college district Dr. Billy B. Thames, president of Copiah-Lincoln Junior Col- lege district since January, 1968, constantly works for the bet- terment of both the Wesson and Natchez campuses. An honor graduate of Copiah-Lincoln in 1954 and an initial inductee into the college ' s Hall of Fame, he obtained a bache- lor of science, a master of science, and an Ed.D. degree, all from the University of Southern Mississippi. An outstanding educator in Mississippi, Dr. Thames is ac- tive in the Copiah-Lincoln and National Education Associ- ations and the Mississippi Association of Educators; serves on the Advisory Council for the State Superintendent of Educa- tion; is a past president of the Mississippi Junior College President ' s Association and the Mississippi Adult Education Association; a member of Phi Delta Kappa and the Red Red Rose, education fraternities; and the Mississippi Junior Col- lege Faculty Association. He is a member of the Mississippi Junior College Commis- sion, has served as vice chairman of the executive committee for the Mississippi Council for the Improvement of Education, and on numerous other boards and committees. He is serving a second term as president of the Wesson Lions Club. He has served as a member of the board of direc- tors for Brookhaven Kiwanis Club, as Kiwanis Club ' s Circle K adviser, and was Circle K adviser one year. Further he is a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Wesson and for the State YMCA. Other community activities include being a member of the advisory council for the Boy Scouts of America, and a member of the University of Southern Mississippi and Copiah-Lincoln Alumni Associations. He is past chairman of the deacons of Wesson Baptist Church and a member of the board of directors. Because of his outstanding contributions to education, he was selected as one of six Outstanding Phi Theta Kappa Alum- ni in the United States in 1975, the announcement being made in Philadelphia, Pa. He was recognized by Mississippi College for Outstanding Service to Humanity in 1976. Copiah-Lincoln Alumni Association voted him Alumnus of the year in 1970 and in 1975 Monticello-Lawrence County Chamber of Com- merce recognized him for a special award of Contribution to Betterment of Life in Lawrence County, his home county. Dr. Thames is married to the former Anne Allen of Monticello and they are parents of three children, Rachel, Re- becca, and William, Jr. - ' .«!»i ' a ■,-.- The Thames Family (1 to r) Dr. and Mrs. Thames, Rebecca, William, Jr., and Rachel.
