Dr. Billy B. Thames works for better- ment of campuses Dr. Billy B. Thames, president of Copiah-Lincoln Junior College district since January, 1968, constantly works for the betterment of both the Wesson and Natchez campuses. An honor graduate of Copiah-Lincoln in 1954 and an initial in- ductee into the college's Hall of Fame, he obtained a bachelor of science, a master ot science, and an Ed.D. degree, all from the University of Southern Mississippi. An outstanding educator in Mississippi, Dr. Thames is active in the Copiah-Lincoln and National Education Associations and the Mississippi Association of Educators, serves on the Advisory Coun- cil forthe State Superintendent ot Education, is a past president of the Mississippi Junior College President's Association and the Mississippi Adult Education Association, a member of Phi Delta Kappa and the Red Red Rose, education fraternities, and the Mississippi Junior College Faculty Association. He is a member of the Mississippi Junior College Commission, has served as vice chairman of the executive committee for the Mississippi Council for the Improvement of Education, and on numerous other boards and committees. A past president, he is active in the Wesson Lions Club and is a member ot the board of directors. He has served as a member of the board of directors for Brookhaven Kiwanis Club, as Kiwanis Club's Circle K adviser, and was Circle K adviser one year. Further he is a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Wesson and for the State YMCA. Other community activities include being a member of the ad- visory council tor the Boy Scouts of America, and a member ofthe University ot Southern Mississippi and Copiah-Lincoln Alumni Associations. He is past chairman of the deacons of Wesson Baptist Church and a member of the board of directors. Because of his outstanding contributions to education, he was selected as one of six Outstanding Phi Theta Kappa Alumni in the United States in 1975, the announcement being made in Philadelphia, Pa. He was recognized by Mississippi College for Outstanding Service to Humanity in 1976. Copiah-Lincoln Alumni Association voted him Alumnus of the Year in 1970 and in 1975 Monticello-Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce recognized him for a special award of Contribution to Betterment of Lite in Lawrence County, his home county.
