Dr. Billy Thames spends much time working for CLJC Dr. Billy B. Thames as president of the Copiah-Lincoln Junior College District, spends much of his time working for the improve- ment of both the Wesson and Natchez campuses. Dr. Thames holds the B.S., M.S., and Ed.D. degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. A honor graduate of Copiah- Lincoln, he was selected to its first annual Hall of Fame in 1954. An outstanding educator, he is active in the Copiah-Lincoln and National Education Associations and the Mississippi Association of Educatorsg serves on the executive committee for the Mississippi Association of School Administrators, is a past president of the Mississippi Adult Education Association, a member of Phi Delta Kappa and the Red Red Rose, and the Mississippi Junior College Faculty Association. Dr. Thames is currently serving his second year as chairman of the Mississippi Junior College Association. He is currently serving as vice chairman of the executive committee for the Mississippi Council for the Improvement of Education. A past president, he is active in the Wesson Lions Club and is currently tail twister and a member of the board of directors. He has served as a member of the board of directors for Brookhaven Kiwanis Club. Further he is a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Wesson and for the State YMCA. Other community activities include being a member of the advi- sory council for the Boy Scouts of America, and a member of the University of Southern Mississippi and Copiah-Lincoln Alumni Associations. He is past chairman of the deacons of Wesson Baptist Church and a member of the board of directors. He teaches a Sunday School class and Church Training class and is a past director of Church Training. Because of his outstanding contributions to education, he was selected as one of eight Outstanding Phi Theta Kappa Alumni in the United States for 1975, the announcement being made in Phila- delphia, Pa. He was recognized by Mississippi College for Out- standing Service to Humanity in 1976. Copiah-Lincoln Alumni Association voted him Alumnus of the Year in 1970 and then in 1975 the Monticello-Lawrence County Cham- ber of Commerce recognized him for a special award of Contribution to Betterment of Life- in Lawrence County, his home county.
