CC President Thames Cives Co-Lin New Life With New Buildings President Billy B. Thames gave a new life to Copiah-Lincoln Junior College when he became president in January, 1968. ln his quest for a better Co-Lin, President Thames has helped make possible the addition of several new buildings on the campus. Since he has become president, a ten year building program has been initiated. On the drawing board are plans for a million and a half dollar Student Center, a health occupations center, and a new field house with construction to begin this semester. Already completed are Lula Stevens Hall, Dwight A. Harris Transportation Center, J. J. Wesson Data Processing Cen- ter, the J. S. Youngblood Air-Conditioning - Welding Complex, and the Maggie Flowers Ewing Fine Arts Center. Renovations have been made on Memorial Library, Ellzey Hall, and the separation of the ollege bookstore and grill. Smith Hall was under construction when Mr. Thames came to Co- in. A nine hole golf course was constructed on the campus, and improvements were made to the ootball stadium. A new baseball field and new tennis courts have been constructed. Presently a drive is being constructed to circle the campus. All existing buildings were mproved upon, such as the addition of the private dining hall, the renovation of the old sci- ence building to be used as a student activity center, the addition of radio station, W W C L - F M, and a campus beautification project was enacted. A graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, Mr. Thames was born and reared in Lawrence jounty. While at Co-Lin he was an honor graduate and was selected to the schoolis first Hall of Tame. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in l958 and a Master of Science from USM in 1959. He is continuing his education by working in a doctorate degree at USM. Mr. Thames, who has been on leave of absence since December, vilf complete his residence requirements for his Ph.D. in August. Before becoming President, he was associated with Belhaven College in Jackson, the Jackson 'ublic Schools, and the Attala County Schools. He is a member of the Mississippi Education Association, Copiah-Lincoln Education Associa- ion, National Education Association, and Phi Delta Kappa, national education fraternity. He is -n the Board of Directors of Bank of Wesson, Choctaw District Leadership Training Chairman, ,Soy Scouts of America, and Sunday School department teacher and deacon, Wesson Baptist lhurch. He is a member of Brookhaven Kiwanis Club, Red Red Rose, Wesson Lions Club, and vas a charter member of Wesson Jaycees. He and Mrs. Thames, the former Anne Allen, are the parents of three children, Rachel .ynn, Rebecca Leigh, and William Bass, Jr. .li
