In his quest for a better Co-Lin, President Thames has helped make possible the addition of several new build- ings to the campus. At the opening of school this year, four new buildings awaited use - Lula Stevens Hall, Dwight A. Harris Transportation Center, J. J. Wesson Data Processing Center, and the J. S. Youngblood Air-Conditioning - Welding Complex. The Gertrude Mutton Fine Arts Cen- ter is being constructed this year. A graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, Mr. Thames was born and reared in Lawrence County. While at Co-Lin he was an honor graduate and was selected to the school's first Hall of Fame. He went on to the Uni- versity of Southern Mississippi and obtained his bache- lor of science degree in 1958 and his master of science degree the next year. Mr. Thames has continued his edu- cation by taking some 50 hours of graduate work in guid- ance and school administration. Before becoming President in January, 1968, he was associated with Belhaven College in Jackson, the Jackson Public Schools and Attala County Schools. He is a member of the Mississippi Education Associa- tion, Copiah-Lincoln Education Association, National Education Association, and Phi Delta Kappa, national education fraternity. He is on the Board of Directors, Bank of Wesson, Choctaw District Leadership Training Chairman, Boy Scouts of America, and Sunday School department teacher and deacon, Wesson Baptist Church. President Thames is a member of the Brookhaven Kiwa- nis Club, Red Red Rose, Wesson Lions Club, and the Wesson Jaycees. The pine seedling planted today will be a mature tree then, ready for making into paper and thousands of other products made from trees. Indeed, the South is secured by its fast growing forest and the industry it supports. No industry in this industrial nation has a more certain demand for its products than the forest industry, and you can be a part of it. Think of the paper business. Think of tree farming and forestry. Timber is a crop, perpetuated and conserved by skilled forestry practices. St. Regis, a leader in Southern industrialization and forest management, invites every iambitious youth to take a look at forestry as a profession, and the paper industry as a challenging career.
