Thames works tirelessly for the betterment ol' Copiah-Lincoln. He's never too busy to lend a helping hand. whether it's grabbing a plate in the cafeteria to help serve in a rush. or personally cleaning up in the dorm. or meeting with alumni of'tieers. Born and reared in Lawrence County. President Thames gradu- ated from Montieello High School. He is an honor graduate of Co- piah-Lineoln and was selected to the school's first Hall ol' Fame. He obtained his bachelor of science degree in 1958 from the University of Southern Mississippi and a master ol' science degree in 1959 from the same institution. Since that time. Mr. Thames has taken some 40 hours ofgraduate work in guidance and school administra- tion. Mr. Thames has been associated with the ,lackson Public Schools. the Attala County Schools, and Belhaven College, Jackson, Missis- sippi. He is a member ol' the MEA. CLEA. NEA. and Phi Delta Kappa. national education lraternity. I-Ie is on the Board ol' Directors. Bank ofWesson1 Choctaw District Leadership Training Chairman. Boy Scouts ol' America: and Sunday Sehool Department teacher and Deacon, Wesson Baptist Church. President Thames is a member ol' the Wesson Jaycees. the Lionis Club, the Kiwanis Club, and Red Red Rose. He and Mrs. Thames, the former Anne Allen. are the parents ol' three children. Rachel Lynn. Russell Ellzey elected superintendent of agricul- tural high sehool until 1928 when the junior College was opened. Ninety-one students enrolled for the first year of college in 1928- 29. Dr. J. lVl. Ewing. now president of Delta State College, beeame president of Co-Lin in March. 1932. replaeing Ellzey who resigned. Ewing served until 1956. with the exception of194-3-45 when Willie H, Smith was aeting president. F. M. Forte-nlierry. eleeted president in 1956. served until 1968 when he heeame direelor of the junior colleges in the state. a posi- tion he held until his death in the fall of 1970.
