,716 HIGH ?00Z76',4L'L' The junior high football team had an excellent year. They showed pride and spirit in their team and played the best of their abilities. When asked what did he enjoy most about playing the sport, Ran- dy Evans replied, The fact that whether or not you get along with someone in every day life, you are great friends on the field, and the fact you get to meet new people. We also asked the junior high team, What was your biggest dis- appointment during the year? Al- most all of them replied, When we got beat by Barnsdall, a fairly easy team. In the season opener, the game was a tough 6-0 defeat. After this loss the team was determined to make the year a total sucess. In the next game, the jr. high foot- ball team traveled to Dewey to play their 7th and Sth grade. With deter- mination and hard work Copan beat the Bulldoggers 22-8. On September 24, the jr. high played Oilton here. They showed us they had the skill, and confi- dence to follow-up that victory. They beat Oilton 28-6. On October 2, the jr. high played South Coffeyville here and the Hornets had an excellent ballgame. They won with a 38-20 victory. In the next outting the Hornets showed us much determination and confidence as ever, and beat Shidler. On October 15, they were to play Welch, always a tough team. The Hornets were leading the opposi- tion 6-0 until the third quarter when Welch ran in for a touch- down. Things were beginning to be really tense. The Hornets were on the 4 yard line with only 4 seconds left on the game clock. It looked like an ulitmate overtime but the team came through with another victory. The Hornets next opponent was Lenapah. The Eagles are usually a real tough team but they proved to be no competition to the Hornets. They defeated the Eagles 32-14 at their home field. The last football game of the sea- son matched the Copan Hornets against Welch. They all expected a tight and close game as the time before but the Hornets game away the victors 27-12. WHAT A SEASON! You should watch these fine group of guys. With their talent and determina- tion Copan looks to have a bright future. ,slit ' ,, ,jig 5 Max, a --.,
