The best example of a group of winners that I have ever seen is that high school football team. Even though they won only two ball games on the scoreboard this year, 1 they won them all in their hearts. The discouragement, humiliation and exhaustion of losing, at certain times lowered their spirits, but was at no point in time strong enough to kill their desire to win. Not be- cause they are asked not to give up, but because they realize it is their duty to their teammates, coach, school and most importantly, to themselves. This group of guys didn't ask for things such as a state champion- ship or even the district champion- ship. They only asked that they may walk tall and proud, and that when they are talked about years later that they may be given the well deserved title of winners. HUIQNECS :SWB SEASON The 1985-86 Hornet football team didn't set the world on fire with their football talent. However, these young men learned the mean- ing of the word DEDICATION. It's easy for a team with a winning record to go practice every day of the week. But for a team that at one point was 0-8, the fun was gone. All they had left was to play for pride. In the last two games of the year, the dedication paid off. After a win- less start the Hornets pulled to- gether to score big wins over Dela- ware and Bluejacket. The Hornets ended the season with a record of 2 wins and 8 losses. However, num- bers aren't always important. A winner is someone that keeps on trying no matter how dim the re- sults look. He is someone that nev- er gives up, not even after the last buzzer has sounded. He has to have the ability to find the good things rather than just the bad.
