We were the big freshmen we had talked about through junior hgh. We came in timid and shy, we hardly said a wor(£ ftyone seemed so old. We loosened up after the first pep assembly, though. At first we just sat there and everyone laughed, but we showed them. Mfe wmn the spirit contest! No one could out yell us until our senior year. y C j As sophomores we started getting more involved. We helped out with homecoming and did very well during the weekly activities. Our spirit was high. We got our rings and waved them in front of everyone's face. We were finally growing up. jm Coming back to school as juniors gave us more responsibilities. We spent most of our time running from door to door saying Would you like to buy a pizza? Then it was canisters and after that M M's. We finally fwd enough money to give the seniors a prom they would never forget. When school began in August of 1983 there were many changes. Some good, some bad. The worst was we had lost the privilege of ruling the Senior Hall. We had waited so long for that. We couldn't stand to see Keshmen in our lockers. Homecoming was a big success. Bob Sherman and Linda McKnight were proudly crowned our King and We've come a long way since playing kiss dr kill during redft. The class of 1984 has grown up together and now it’s timilto make our o li decisions and stick by them. We have learned enough to make a future ftp ourselves. Through all the good and bad times we stuck together to make the past four years some of the best years of our lives. We will all go separately now. but we will always be together in those memories. Coopersville and Coopersville High School are much different from my city and school in Norway. My city has about 200,000 inhabitants and my school is about three times bigger than Coopersville High School. People here at Coopersville have been very nice to me, they have even given me a nickname. I'm here basicly to learn American culture and language, and I hope I can leave some knowledge about Norwegian culture and language in exchange. Seven teachers worked with 64 students enrolled. Students came from many surrounding areas, as students could attend the school of their choice with their district picking up the tab. Some students rode as much as forty miles one way on buses which were constructed from used beer trucks formerly owned by a beer distributing agency. The physical facilities consisted of the 1908 building plus a 1935 depression project addition. The athletic program consisted of football, basketball, baseball and track on a class B league. Games were played in the late afternoons. In 1949 the lights were added to the football field behind the old high school. The present high school was added in 1960 along with a new athletic facility, extensive li- brary, hot lunch program, expanded curriculum and a larger faculty. All the smaller districts by then consolidated into a large high school. C’ville was well over 100 students. Teachers Give All Students of the past and present are indebted to the CHS teaching staff. They've given their all for their students and are willing yet to give more. The students are lucky in that we have teachers with a large variety in educational in- terests as well as coming from many various schools. We have a total of 365 years of ex- perience with many different ages. I asked each of the teachers what their opin- ions of students in the 80's compared to earlier years were.
