Ed To The Class of 1983: It is impossible to put four years of memories upon one sheet of paper. For some of you, it has gone by so very quickly; for others, it has been a lifetime. In Shakespeare’s words, “What’s done cannot be undone. I would like to think that your years at Coopersville have been meaningful and enjoyable. If we as a school have touched you, even slightly, with a little wisdom, a little pride and the ability to make a choice, then we have done our job. Henceforth, it becomes your job, your responsibility and your life. Mom will not always be there to make sure you are up on time in the morning and Dad will not be there to make sure you are in on time at night. We will not be there in between to en- courage, prod or pull you toward a common goal. It’s your life, your party. I pray to God that you continue to put your talents to good use. I hope that you will go on making sound judgements. Above all, I sincerely wish that you will continue to display the leadership ability that is so prevalent in your class. Because of you, Coopersville continues to rise to the challenge of academic excellence. Because of your untiring efforts, Coopersville has been among the leaders in the area of athletics; and finally, because of the leadership of the Class of '83, our student body exemplifies student involvement. The words that best emulate the Class of 1983’s attitude and style would be that they never let you down. You were always there when we needed you. Throughout your years, from innocent freshmen to the sophistication of your senior year, the Class of 1983 has made it’s presence felt. Because of you and your efforts, Coopersville High School really is a better place to be. As you go onward and upward, may your goals become your realities. Take your past with you into your future and continue to build that solid foundation. We as a school staff join with you and your parents in celebrating your graduation. As your principal, I thank you for your kindness and cooperation. You made your own past memories; now, as you leave the security of school, make way for your future accomplishments. Best wishes as you travel new paths, wherever they may lead. lew pa ths, wherever they may I ft. iB Sincerely, ttoLrt ?. Seniors 39 Robert R. Fortin Senior High Principal 1983 Class History In the Fall of 1979, we entered CHS thinking we were really something, but we soon found out otherwise. We had a great first Homecoming, and on top of it all we won first prize for the Homecoming floats. The other classes were disqualified because of some foul play on the other floats. As sophomores we ordered our rings and when they arrived, we were so excited that we walked with them glowing in the air. We drove everyone nuts mumbling, Friends, Romans, Countrymen, because of our silly English class. Being Juniors meant we had the privilege of giving the Seniors their Prom, but there was only one problem; we had no money. Mr. Kilpatrick was great as our sponsor and was a big help, but after a few weeks of money-raising ideas, we didn’t care to see another pizza or M M’s again. Powder Puff was a big Event. Our Juniors put up a tough fight with the Seniors, and it ended in a tie. It was all because of our foxy cheerleaders, who gave us so much support and spirit. It was the first time that the Juniors had ever tied the Seniors!! One of the first big events of our Senior year was Homecoming! It was so exciting, and Cindy Sikkema and Todd Lemieux became our King and Queen. Another great success was the Senior Play (Curtain Going UP)! Euchre seemed to be the card game of the year. Yes, it was our year, we were the Big Seniors. It seemed to take so long to get up there. We, the class of “1983” have come a long way, from 4-square and quiz-bowl, to a time of decision that could decide the future. We have learned to make our decisions and to carry them through. There are more challenges and demands awaiting us, and we will meet and conquer them. Through the good time, bad times, dances, and romances, the class of “83” has shared and grown, and now together we will advance. We may all go our separate ways, but we will never forget the times we had at CHS! A PLAYER’S VIEW The ’82 season was an exciting one, as we came out 8-1 and the Tri-River Champs for the third year in a row. Before the season began, we looked worse after we lost our first game, but fortunately we won by forfeit We battled back through defeat in the top two teams, Lowell and Greenville, and the momentum was there as we went to meet White Piegon, a state ranked team. The game ended as a 16-14 double overtime victory for C’ville. We defeated Lakewood and Cedar Springs and won a tough game over Fremont. Then came Spar- ta, a disappointing game for everybody as we lost in overtime, 22-14, and ended up sharing the title with Greenville and Sparta. Our last game was Comstock Park. In the last week of practice, there is traditionally a lot of goofing off and this year was no exception. But as Friday night came around, we knew this would be a tough game and the 3 inches of snow made things even more fun. We came out victorious in a 28-6 win and ended up 7-2 on the season. As I think back on the season, I realize we didn’t have a lot of talent and we definitely didn’t have the size, but one thing that we do have is a lot of team unity. Everyone gets along on this team and that’s what we need to be champions. A COACH’S VIEW As a coach of the 1982 Broncos it was indeed very gratifying to coach these hard-working young men. We’ve overcome a lot of adversity with a cooperative spirit and a burning desire to be suc- cessful. I congratulate them for all of their accomplishments but more important, thank them for mak- ing my years as head football coach so enjoyable and satisfying. I have been blessed over the years with good talent, attitude, and players willing to sacrifice for the sake of the team. I shall always remember the action on the field but I shall cherish the little things off the field. Assemblies, beach parties, dune climbs, team meals, the pumpkin pond and toilet papering my house. There have been a lot of good times and I’m sure you’ll remember them always. I wish each and every one of you continued success and good fortune.
