But together we have grown and learned to solve our difficulties. As freshmen I’m sure we all had a little feeling of inferiority. At the first assembly, the usual jokes about the freshmen were told. During the class competition we didn’t know we had to stand so we ail just sat there which brought on some laughs. Our class representatives for Homecoming were Carol Klein and Scott Schumaker. As our class moved up to the sophomore rank we all felt more comfortable. It was our turn to bug the freshmen. Karla Bouman and Dennis DePender represented our class during Homecoming We had a few fundrasers which included sponsoring the Christmas dance and a few movies. During Homecoming week of our Junior year the spirit wasn’t running very high, but as Friday and the annual assembly rolled around we did quite well Our class representatives for Homecoming were Kathy Sanford and Larry Simons. There was much work to1 e done for it was our turn to put on the Prom. We held various fundraisers such as selling candy sticks during the lunch hours, selling candles, spices, popcorn, and stuffed animali With everyone’s help and support we raised enough money to hold a nice Prom at Meijers Cosmopolitan Room, with music provided by Pedal Fall. Our last year finally arrived. Homecoming was a big event for us since it would be our last one. We didn’t do so well with the various contests during that week. The weather was perfect for the night of the biglootball game. During halftlmisBerinis DePender and Elaine Kowalczyk were crowned Kincfand Queen. In late November we were already ordering caps and gowns for graduation. Although there has been a lot of work involved over the past four years, we have made it and alorig with that we have grown and matured. After graduation we may not see each other, but the memories will last forever. Class Historian, Elaine Kowalczyk History of Class 43 §cuior Excellence Aiuariis The annual Awards for Excellence honor exceptional seniors and encourage underclassmen to better efforts. The criteria for con- sideration differs among the departments. In general, however, cer- tain conditions must be met. First, a student must have an overall average of a C+. A high interest level, as evidenced by some form of out-of-class work, is important. Nominations must be approved by two thirds of the department making the nomination and then be reviewed by an advisory committee. We were both apprehensive not only of the upcoming year, but also of what was down the road. We were excited, yet not quite sure of what was expected of us. Through these four years we have grown together; we have seen many changes in our school. Some of these changes have been good; some have hurt any chances to enhance oneself educationally. Yet, we survived! The class of 1982 not only survived, but they excelled. Academically the class has developed some outstanding talents. Athletically, the class has been a major contributor to our success. Finally, the class has socially been a pleasure to work with. The friendliness, the concern, and the initiative displayed makes theirs a tough act to follow. Your future, though clouded at times, will present you with similar challenges met in your freshman year. 1 am sure you will meet these challenges in the same successful manner. Our community's and country’s future will lie in your generation’s capable hands. Continue to make good use of your God-given talents. The leadership we need is among you. My hope is that we at Coopersville have in some way helped to muster it. Each year as classes leave us, we have mixed emotions, happiness for your success and sadness for your departure. The Class of 1982 will be special to me. We began together; we weathered the storm. I shall miss your enthusiasm, your joy, and your cooperation. Good luck and God bless you! The 1982 wrestling team was a very small team with several open weight classes. Because of this it was very difficult to win for we had to spot some teams 24 points and then try to win. But the year had several bright spots and several good wrestlers. There were nights when one of our wrestlers would win his first varsity match and earn his letter along with the excellent season of wrestling by Ron Stankus, Tom Zematis, Rob Royce, and Charlie Albrecht. Ron Stankus won the Hudsonville tournament and along with Tom Zematis made the outstanding wrestling list in the Press and Chronicle. We had several new members on our team. Eric Klein, Ryan Peacock, Kurt DeVos, Mike Hessler, Jeff Maiville, and Craig Munger, who won some important matches for us and even won medals in some of our tournaments. 1982 will be remembered because it was the first time Coopersville hosted the districts and because of the excellent tournament the grappler aides put on. Coach Kemme Even though Coopersville hasn’t ever had a really tough wrestling team since I’ve been involved, Charlie Albrecht and I have had a great time and learned a lot from Mr. Kemme. I hope to see that in future years the team will grow larger and be able to fill all the weights with good wrestlers.
