Zenith 77 GRADUATING September 1943 arrived with the class of 49 entering the portals of Cvrlle Hrgh with a total enrollment of ninety seven students After a slight brt of confusion as to Just where Study Hall 30 was located the no longer confused Freshmen settled down to a year of school work At a class meeting rate rn September rt was decided rn order to get the class off to a flying start the pilot or president should be Robert Modder man with Clarvce Rozeboom rrdrng rn the Co pilots seat with Roberta Titus aS stewardes whrle Torr Wart Garzellonr was the flying guard over the classes mone ,I The first year for the class clrmaxed at a prcnrc held at the North Shore rn Grand Haven on beau As advisors for the year were Mrs Plant and Mr Pounder Tenth The following September the class now Sopho mores trouped back to school with expectations of a bigger and better year The class enrolled with eighty one students but rt was still the largest tenth grade enrollment rhus far rn the history of the school Leon Hanson was ch rsen Captain of the good ship 49 as president Frist mate on the shrp was Phyllis Gordon with Claryce Rozeboom acting as secretary and Kenneth Kammeraad as ships Pur ser In December of 46 the clas sponsored an all school party the Trlt A Whrrl The feature of the evening was a lamp rn the center of the floor to coincide with the son-1 The Old Larnplighter popular at that time. June came and another eventful year was com- pleted by a picnic held at the North Shore 'rs in the year before. Our advisors for the year were Mrs. Ray-Jones and Mr. LaDuke. Eleventh Another year began the day after Labor Day 1947. The members of the class had now' advanced to Juniors-one rung higher on the ladder of knowledge. This year the reins of leadership were given to Frank Dannenberg as we took a stage coach for the third step of our journey toward graduation. Rid- ing shotgun as vice-president was Roy Ham. while as secretary we had Roberta Titus. The money bags of the class were given to Helen Laug. In November of this 'year the class gave the play January Thaw directed by Mrs Altenburg The next event for the year was the Junior sponsored Leap Year Dance Leap Year Fete The outstanding event for the year w rs the Junror Senior Banquet held on May 21 1948 The gym was decorated to r present a Chinese garden at which the Juniors and Seniors first dined at a large banquet and then those persons wishing to dance to the music of Frank Lockages orchestra from Muskegon It was only fitting that the year should be fin rshed at the North Shore having a prcnrc there The advisors for this year were Mrs Altenburg and Mr Layton Twelfth of the class of 49 arrived on that fateful Septem ber day rn 1948 with seventy eight Seniors enroll rng To guide the Senior train through the last stages of the Journey Melvin Dykstra was installed rn the positron of engineer while Robert Modder man acted as the conductor while whistle pulling Phrlrp Metzler was secretary with Lloyd Titus as Tender of the money It was decided that the class should take a trrp to Buffalo at a class meeting early rn the school year As a means of eliminating any financial problem that mrght arise hot dogs were sold at all of the home feotball games and soft drinks pop corn and potato chips were sold during the noon hour and at the basketball games One of the outstanding proJects for the year was the seniors under the super vision of Mr Greg ory holding a Student Government Day when the seniors took over the task of running the school Leon Hanson was elected Superintendent with Phillip Metzler as Principal. The teachers posi- tion from the seventh to the twelfth inclusive were taken over by various seniors. Late in January an all-school party was spon- sored called An Informal Affairx' The senior girls baked cakes to serve at the party. The Senior play the Night of January 16th was given February 23rd and 24th. The play. un- der the directorship of Mr. Gregory was based on an actual New York murder trial in 1935. The class enjoyed the trip to Niagara Falls on May 18th of the year. The trip was filled with fun and the wonders of Detroit and the great Niag- HTS.
