CLASS POEM The Future Beckons The finger of the future beckons now So, with confidence, success we avow. Capable hands sought and strove to effect Our lives with knowledge, beauty, and respect. Loving hearts encouraged us in our fight, Helped obtain the power to reach the height. To summon our courage and always try With ambitions strong and goals set high. Now the completion of our high school days Will carry each of us our chosen ways, Yet we will forever remember the time Of our graduation class of '59, CLASS SONG Farewell To Coopers High Tune: Now and For Always Now as we leave here, We recall all the times Of happiness and joy, At Coopers High. Days of toil and striving Are erased by fond thoughts And memories about Old Coopers High. Now and for always We will remember you. Till time shall cease to be Dear Coopers High. Classmates and teachers, too, Will ever mean so much Now we must say good-bye, Dear Coopers High. Poet and Song Writer Sandra Cockrell 23

CLASS PRGPHECY Having receivedalarge sum of money, I have been able to fulfill a childhood dream-- to travel. Ona recent tour ofthe Northern states, who shouldlsee in New Jersey, but Miss Farmer, our Senior Sponsor. Miss Farmer told me that she is happily married to a New Jersey umpire. Iwaslvery pleased to learn that Miss Farmer had managed to keep in contact with all the members of the Senior class, andfshe gave me some very interesting information concerning them, which I shall now pass on to you. Kelly Glover, who is star pitcher of the Milwaukee Braves, was hit in the mouth with a fast ball batted by Donald Boone, who has the highest batting average for the New York Yankees. Kelly was rushed to Lindsey's Dental Works, where he received expert treat- mentfrom Kent Lindsey. Sylvia Langley is Kent's assistant and Kay Lindsey is employed as his receptionist. I forgot to mention that David Parker is assistant manager for the New York Yankees. Anne Ferrell, who always wished for younger brothers and sisters, now operates a big baby sitting agency in Elm City. Two of her best customers are Aileen Winstead and Mildred Alford, who are happily married. ' The only member of our class to reach stardom was Renny Breedin, who now has the star role in a television series entitled, Jungle Boy . Jerry Mosley has a quiet job back stage in the sound effects department, beating the native tom-toms. Carolyn Powell, Dorothy Batchelor, and Lanna Turner have been enrolled at Kings Business College for the past two years, and are preparing for the top secretarial jobs in Raleigh. Faye Edwards, biggest flirt of our class, still has them standing in a line--Little ones, I mean. Faye is now happily married to a prominent lawyer. Donald Sherrod drives a city bus, and two of his favorite passengers are Marie Winstead and Nancy Land, who are employed by the Home Savings and Loan. Charles Lamm, who always liked to nod in class, is now a professional sleeper, testing mattresses for the Kings Down Mattress Company. Sandra Cockrell has just completed an exciting novel based on the exciting private life of Dolly Langley. Dolly is a big socialite in Washington, D. C. Lois Joyner is a John Robert Powers model, modeling the latest creations of designer, Dianne Godwin. A musical background is furnished by Lois Carol Tucker. Another model in our class is Nancy Baker, who is advertising for the local Vanish Freckle Cream Company. Marvin Joyner, President of our class, is now President of General Motors, Inc. Clay Strickland and Dennis Sherrod are test drivers for the firm. ' Jean Daniel was recently nominated for the student in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities . Jean is a student at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson. Bobby Winstead, who couldn'tbring himself to leave farming, operates a big ranch out West. We hear that he recently struck oil. Harold Ward is sporting a sharp hair cut given him by Durwood Patterson at Patterson' s Barber Shop in Elm City. Dolly Joyner is now teaching school in East Bend, Indiana. Della Moss is secretary to the principal there, and teaches typing classes during the school hours. Aster Lindsey, true to tradition, is operating a florist in Wilson and is selling lots of blossoms to Dickie Price and Larry Weaver, that they may keep their young ladies happy. Verna Hendricks and Bernice Joyner are staying at aboarding house run by Anne Eason. Anne gets quite abit of business from Patricia Driver and Carolyn Whitley when they return to North Carolina. These girls are living on the West Coast now. Otha Winstead just couldn't break away from dear old Coopers High. Miss Farmer tells me that Otha is assistant custodian at Coopers now. My thanks to Miss Farmer for this information. I was so glad to hear from all my old classmates. By this time, time was rushing on and I had to hurry and catch my plane for San Francisco. Beverley Williams, 24 Class Prophetess
