4 4 4 GHITIIHU THEATRE UT EU UPEHATTU On a sultry September 6 of last fall Cooper s football warrrors started pract1ce wrth 30 eager cand1dates ready to do or d1e Coach Nolan w1th them on borrowed t1me unttl the Army A1r Corps called h1m and Assrstant Coach Sm1th set to work to mould a team from several of last year lettermen and C n enthu 1 asttc group of prospects Instead of the usual etght game schedule the l942 roster con 1 ted of only frve due to transportatron d1ff1cult1es For three weeks they worked 1n torr1d weather So the day of therr f1rst game desplte the heat they surged ahead to defeat Blgler Twp by a score of l2 7 Thls defeat was by a much narrower margm than the 39 O of both the two preced1ng years The game Wllh Snow Shoe proved to be one of the hardest fought of the season 'lhe COODGIHIGDS aetermlned to obllterate last year s defeat at the hands of Snow Shoe came from behrnd twrce to defeat the cocky Snow Shoe team to the tune of 14 12 The lads from Osceola moved tn for thetr annual game here and brought wrth them Coopers fxrst defeat The Vrkmgs scored f1rst but farled to convert the extra polnt Osceola scored next and they were successful 1n k1ck 1ng the much chertshed extra po1nt Thrs put them 1n the lead whtch lead they kept desplte threats through the remamder of the game As the season wore on the V1k1ngs rm proved therr tacttcs and the Curwensv1lle game found them 1n t1p top shape From the begm mng wh1stle the game Was packed wlth thrllls the two teams battlmg tenacrously throughout Sedlak opened th1ngs wrth a br1ll1ant offs1de Cheerleaders Carol Moyle Elame Bachman lsabel Schloskx Cecxlra Rasdort run whlch netted the V1k1ngs the1r flrst touch down Thls Sllff contest resulted ln a vlctory for the Coopernlans by a score of 20 12 Extra exc1tement was suppl1ed when a Cooper end almost rumed Curwensvllle s upr1ghts 1n mak ng certam h1s team s vlctory The day of days the annual battle w1th Pl'11l1pSb1lfQ frnally came The records of the two teams revealed that the game could be anybody s After a scoreless flrst quarter the V1k1ngs who had been dom1nat1ng the playrng unt1l then plunged ahead for the frrst touch down but unfortunately falled to connect for the extra potnt Although on several other occa slons they threatened to score the f1ISf half ended wtth Cooper wtth a one touchdown lead In the second half the Mounta1neers returned w1th a vengeful determ1nat1on and t1ed the score tmmedrately Fa1l1ng to get the extra polnt the game ended m a t1e Wtth thls MORAL vrctory Cooper ended a most success ful season The V1k1HqS also dld thelr brt for Uncle Sam 1n an extra game w1th Cooper Alumnl adm1ss1on for whlch Was pard 1n War Stamps by players coaches and spectators Although the V1k1ngs were defeated the cause was a worthy one 1 . - - . .- , , . t , . ,. -, Q , Q ' r r - , ss .
