THE CLASS HISTORY The class of H49H entered the walls of J. W, Cooper in of course, 1945 with a blaze of glory. Since it was the first year that the school was open because of the cave-in, we were just as confused as the seniors in such things as getting around the building, looking for the gym, finding the health room, etc. It seems that we entered confused, we went through school confused, and to some of us we are coming out confused, Well, the beginning of our class dates way back to the fall of 1945. The war had just ended. Graduating classes of St, Casmir's, St. Stanislaw's, St. George's, Jefferson and Lincoln buildings, were eager to get started in High School. While many pupils intended to go to the Annunciation School, still many more intended to go to good old J. W. Cooper. Then on one September day, the Evening Herald issued the home room teachers of the incoming classes and all Freshman-to-be looked with eagerness to what home room teacher he or she was assigned to report. A few days later the parents of our class bldded their Babies good bye as they trodded off to 'high School Everyone was done up in their Sunday best on the faithful day for it marked the beginning of four wonderful years When class was over for the day and we came home from work Cschool that isl we told our parents of what a great big wonderful school J W Cooper was They were mighty proud of what this school had to offer their children Soon days turned into weeks and everything was WOrk1ng on a complete schedule Mrs Dean had charge of Section 9 1 Miss Fox 9 2 Miss Sunderland 9 3 Miss Uleckie 9 4 Mrs Brennan 9 5 Miss Stabinsky 9 6 Mrs Sheva 9 7 Miss Dean 9 8 Many clubs were organized such as the Dramatic Club, Amateur Club Creative Writers Club etc Mr Twardzik who was then head band dlrector held mUS1C classes There were other activities such as matinee dances held after school at 3 30 and sponsored by the Freshman Sophomore Juniors and Seniors respectively There were also a few Freshman parties in between Around March and April Mr Quigley started lntra mural basketball for both the boys and girls It so happened that Miss Dean s section, who was then located in room 33 took the honors for both the boys and girls ' ' ll 'Y - Y H ' - - ' 1 ' 1 - , - Y l - , .. , . .. , ! , . . , . . . . . , . ! 7 ' I , . v-vw--.-.'f'fv 'n?-vr-N.-1.-f-vw-vvv-Q--uw.. The stage was now set for the HFirst Annual Spring Reviewn as it was then called. The background was a night-club and participants in the review were supposed to be performers in this night-club. This was such a hit it had to be held over. There isn't anything much more to tell of that glorious Freshman year. Came the Summer and everyone was getting ready to spend two beautiful months of leisure after ten wonderful months in J. W. Cooper, As usual, as we entered our sophomore year we were divided into different sections and therefore making new friends. The class that we had in our sophomore year was the class that we have up until our Senior year. During the sophomore year, the Dramatic Club held a school play HBrother Gooseu. The play was directed by Miss Helen Chaplinsky and turned out to be a great success. This incidently was Miss Chaplinsky's last year as a teacher due to the fact that she was getting married in June, The sophomore year also marked the beginning of intra mural volley ball Although it was more of an elimination Miss Ryan's section was the only sophomore section that survived There were also parties held by the sophomores The Junior year was the beginning of new classes The Academics had Chemistry and Geometry The Commercials had Typing It was hard getting adJusted to these subjects but as time went by so did school During this year the swimming pool was opened to the students of J W Cooper The delay of the opening of the pool was due to the fact that the school board could not get a chlorinator for the pool When September rolled around we were entering our last year in high school Our first progect was electing the class officers and after that was finished we were preparing the year book Each senior had to deposit S5 on this year book Our first big event was the Thanksgiving Dance which turned out to be a great success After the Thanksgiving Dance came the Christmas Dance which was another great success The funds from these dances went toward paying for the year book secure more money for the yearbook Mr McGuire, who is faculty advisor for yearbook opened a Patron Ad Neek Each senior was to secure at least one patron ad which would cost two dollars This eliminated the headache of .. - . 1 , . . . . . r , To , . vv v vv , . ,Q-q1.,M-q-,Ura-',,?-Wsvs-for-y-va-.-W., -..,.,-,va.,,' .. . .,,. l,,..,... .,r .. ., V. -. .. ,....,,-,..,,.,,.,.. ., , - r M .. ,. ,, . ,, ., . ..
