OUR FIRST VISIT ... mm)) First stop on our 1964-65 Wespac cruise was Pearl Harbor. Our first view of Hawaii was the world famous landmark of Diamond Head. Cruising around it, we headed along the south coast of the island of Oahu, toward the historic naval base. It was here in Pearl Harbor that the Japanese attacked Battleship USS Arizona, few traces remain of that never to be forgotten day, December 7, 1941. Our stay in Hawaii was short-lived, and eight hours after our arrival we were again steaming westward. Short though our visit was, Coontz sailors were able to admire the islands from afar and hope someday tc return and sight-see in earnest. ? r . jL4 M S| ,4., 38 ' — ' -?
