The best thing about the operational readiness of the U.S. Fleet is not the fact that a ship can perform her duties to standards but a combined effort of many ships which can work together for an overall above standard result. 1 tim 3 - 1 1 5 Q 1 ,w . . -4- R1 5' 15 l ', 5 . Ocean Venture '81 Looking straight ahead after her sad departure, the officers and crew of COONTZ became a part of the naval exercise, Ocean Venture ' 1981. Working with other U.S. units, a series of drills and exercises began to test and improve the capabilities of the multi- faceted naval ships. ln company with the KALAMAZOQ CONYNCHAM JOHN RODCERS, and several other ships, COONTZ played her part in many various areas, for example: receiving supplies by helicopter, refueling a helicopter from shipboard fuel lines, transferring personnel and equipment to other ships via high line, assisting fire-fighting control from ship to ship, not to mention flag hoisting drills, commun- ications drills and ship manuevers. Not an area or work section of the COONTZ system was missed while participating in the Ocean Venture - 1981. And to put it point blank with out sounding brag' gingly, COONTZ did it all, all of the exercises, drills and manuevers very well, very well indeed. ,aa Q- , '1 3N' MW -r ,Ms 9 ' 5.3 fl elm-'-2Qg,4F if 'N ' M- L' ' 1. .f : .fl ...gh N .,,,,,y -A A W dwg, Y' '- ' ,,-.4useWk'8i.gg..,., .. . F:-Qf'f'- H :I :e, . , ,I Helo Detail Although there are many dangerous details which must be performed throughout the Navy system, one of the most dangerous is the Helo Detail. Fire'fighters ready for action, in comes the hovering, whirling machine, carrying supplies of all types, ready to drop her load onto the awaiting deck of the sea-rolling ship. At any second, a piece of paper or any type of particle could block the helo's intake and down she comes. But the crew of COONTZ she is good at her task and flawless as a freshly cut diamond, the task is completed successfully. , '1 s. , KJ, I 1 i K 1 E I - J fi I HT A R .eyy gg 15 , g if: '6 , -mam , 1 Y MQ: ,,-, Q j' WW ,' 'bgsfj V: ' , ' j' 1l,..li.e, 1 T? r at a .FLY 4'A, ' Q . r 1 'B'-2 42' 0 ' f- , ,M it 7 ' 4 f i 4 ' Q' 5' - t - T3 fo ' I 1 'fl' ,, W tolo' f 'J Q? 4.
