Q If the buildings pictured here could speak, they would tell a story of challenge and achievement. The old building, pictured above at the right, would speak with pride of the hundreds of Wilscin young people who have trod its halls since the big front doors swung open in January, 1923, to admit thc nearly three hundred students who were to attend Wilson liigh School. It would recall the splendid records achieved by that first group and emulated by succeeding groups of students. its tale would bring to mind Mr. Charles L. Coon, pioneer educator, who was its first superintendent, and Mr. Shephard Bryan, its hrst principal. A highlight in the story would be the completion of the audi- torium wing, pictured at the right, where twenty-one graduates of the class of 1923 held their commencement exercises. M Mm U M- dl ', lXlClHOl'ill3lC events of the second year would include acquisition of the gymnasium wing, shown at the left, and of the present athletic field, which was cleared of its final cotton crop in time for fall football practice. Further reminiscing would bring to mind that solemn occasion, shortly after Mr. Coons death in 1927, when the school was renamed The Charles L. Coon lligh School. The story would mention no further details of signihcant structural additions until 1951. when the new building, pictured above at the left, became available. A credit to school administrators and to the people of VVilson, it marked an important step in a building campaign designed to care for increasing en- rollment and an expanding educational pro- gram. Motivated bv much the same goals as those which inspire the Kev Club, Kevettes an- nually give concrete proof of their concern for community well-being. Their preparation ol' Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for the needy is traditional, as is their interest in patients of the Mt. Sinai Hospital, who have been adopted as a special project. ln the school, their sponsorship of the girls' intrae mural basketball teams is a vital force in building sportsmanship and school morale. A tea to honor their mothers and work with the Wilson Kennel Club in sponsoring a dog show also help to keep them busv. Left to right, top to bottom, inemliers are: Allen, E. Baltzegar, C. Bass, L.
