' defame Mwtdneawz aoteaucw During the first week of November, political fever struck Coolidge High School as well as the rest of the nation. ln observance of the 1952 Presidential Election, Coolidgites conducted a serious political assembly, an orderly election, and a gay, symbolic pageant. This elaborate program was sponsored by the Polemics Club and the Student Council. Every Coolidge student cast his vote and marched in the parade. A count of the ballots showed that Coolidge voters preferred Governor Stevenson to General Eisenhower. PARADE TO THE BALLOT BOX is led by Ronnie Spitalny, Borah Perlmutter, Cecile Sosnick, Jerry Sandler, and Hanna Petrushan- sky. AT THE ELECTION ASSEMBLY, Frances Bran, Eugene Lambert, and Jeanne Shuster were spokesmen for the Democrats. Lenore Aronson, Jerry Bernstein, and Edward Shapiro presented the Republican platform and urged student voters to support their candidate. Julius Good- man, who acted as moderator, also talked on the minor parties. Tippecanoe and Tyler too and Fifty-four Forty or Fight were among the hundreds of signs and banners displayed by students in the line of march. The parade covered every presidential election in our history. Ameri- can lndians, cowboys, pioneers, Uncle Sams, famous generals and athletes, and even some girls of the gay nineties made the entire parade something to look at! y ygyi ii y ii A in mlm IHBU-X36 rf S stovepipe hat and the beard on Bob Hale-Cooper, sophomore, transform him into a Lincoln of sorts, the Argyle socks strike a false note. Early in the third quarter, quarterback Sheppard passed to Panneton on the 10-yard line, and Panneton took it over for the first score of the day. ln the closing minutes of play, Sheppard carried the ball over from the 3-yard line to make the score 12-0 Ronnie Hunt's boot on the second TD added the extra point in the final score. COOLIDGE - ANACOSTlA Game forfeited. COOLIDGE 50 - BELL 0 instead of being called the Bell game, it should have been called the Fred Sheppard Field Day. Fred scored twice in the opening period, Allan Poms also scored in the same frame. Basil Marmaras dropped a Bell carrier in his own end zone for a safety. During the second period, Sheppard scored two more times. In the third quarter, Jimmy Gannon scored on a short run and Sandler carried the ball twelve yards around right end to clinch the game. Ronnie Hunter made six out of seven conversions. COOLIDGE 23 - EASTERN 'l3 At the expense of the Eastern Ramblers, Roger Panneton became Athlete of the Week in several Washington newspapers. In the opening period Roger raced 46 yards off left taclfle for the COLTS first TD. In the second period he scored again on a 5-yard iaunt around end, also in the same frame Sonny Wise of Eastern scored, but the COLTS led at the half. ln the third period, Wise scored again to tie us up at l3 all. After a fourth quarter marked by iniuries, Panneton raced 23 yards to put the COLTS out in front. COOLIDGE 6 - ROOSEVELT 19 Phil Perlo, Robbie Smithers and Company proved to be too much for the COLTS to handle. Early in the game, the COLTS got off to a quick touchdown, but the Roughriders '-, ,. caught them in the second period. In the third, the Riders scored two more times. ' M4754 'f Once again the Colts have shown championship form as they copped the Inter-high Baseball Championship for the first time since the great year of l948. Under the fine coaching of Carl Heintel, the underdog COLTS proved that a little teamwork plus strenuous workouts were important factors in the making of a championship team. Stan Bobb's right arm, Billy Harrison's fine batting abil- ity, outstanding fielding by Pino and Mirman, and the consistently good catching and short-stop work of Sheppard and Lake account for the COLT infield, which also played in the All-high, All-prep post-season game at Griffith Stadium. The COLT outfield was the most powerful seen in this area for a long time. Frank Billings, hard-hitting left fielder, and Abrams, slugging center fielder, also made the All-high squad.
