ales nf unlep Using Canterbury Tales as a theme, the Castellan is offering a fresh approach to the 1959-1960 school year. Chaucer's caravan consisted of people with a variety of personalities and professions going on a pilgrimage. At the suggestion of the host, each traveler told a tale in order to pass the time. This year, Cooley High School has helped many begin their pilgrimages through life. Cooley has edu- cated students in various professions, encouraged and lauded athletic abilities, found and developed hidden talents, and molded good citizens. Many tales have unfolded in classrooms and clubs. lndeed, every mem- ber of the faculty and student body could very well write his own tale of the year's events. The staff has chosen a few of the outstanding people who, we feel, have been important in this school year. They have graciously consented to write short tales to introduce the various sections of the book with which they are connected. These people will take you on a journey reviewing the school year. And now, since Chaucer had a host, the jolly inn- keeper in his Canterbury Tales, we, the co-editors of the 1960 Castellan, will act as hosts. Mr. Emmons, the presidents of the Student Council, the Sports Council, a senior class, and the C Clubg and an underclassman from the staff will lead you through the events that have characterized Cooley during 1959 and 1960. We hope that you enjoy your pilgrimage! lanet Bolton Carol Schmidt Co-Editors To liven up the way by telling tales For certainly to ride along alone ln utter dumbness, silent as a stone, ls not a bit of fun in pilqrimagesf' The Host-The Canterbury Tales Geoffrey Chaucer
