ATHLETICS The most outstanding of our ath- letic teams during this past season was, of course, the football squad, which won for the first time the city championship. Coach Smith, his assist- ant coach Crosthwaite, and their boys, by their fine performance throughout the season, and especially in those final games with Southeastern and St. Theresa's, the latter of which shares the title, wrote into Cooley's history a page that will never be forgotten no matter how often it is duplicated in the future. The amazing string of consecutive dual-meet victories that Coach Snar- ey's thinclads have been piling up dur- ing the last ten years was this season brought sharply to the attention of all when the series was at last ended at fifty-five successive wins. This remark- able record will undoubtedly furnish a mark for Detroit schools to shoot at for many years to come. As we go to press, the baseball team under Coach Crosthwaite, with seven consecutive victories, is making a strong bid for city honors. The cross country team distin- guished itself by winning the West Side title and placing second in the city. While not setting records 01' win- ning championships, the other teams, on the whole, accounted for themselves creditably, completing a list of ath- letic achievements of which Cooley can well be proud.
