THE CARDINAL CASTELLAN OF 1933 MAY CLASS HISTORY AY 25TH was the culmination of' four years of' effort, hard work, and pleasure for more than four hundred and thirty graduates of' the class of May 1933. It was the day on which they would lay aside their books and papers for the tasks of life-if' tasks could be found. The class body was first organized as l2B's in September 1932. Class officers were elected as follows: Robert Gladfelter, President: Ruth Glenn, Vice-President, Mary Thompson, Secretaryg Oswald Pow- ers, Treasurer. The class was under the supervision of Niel C. Nielson who acted in the capacity of sponsor. The main afl'airs of importance under- taken by the term were, first the class play, The Youngest, presented on December 9-10. The participants in the play collaborated to the best of their tal- ents with the able directing of Mrs. Fry, and produced askit that was an agreeable success, considering the times. Secondly, the annual banquet and dance given in honor of the graduates after the com- mencement exercises. Immediately after the ceremony the graduates proceeded to the lunchroom for the luncheon and thence to the gymnasium where a dance was held as an appropriate ending to a long to-be-remembered day. In January 1933 the class was reorga- nized under the able leadership of the class officers, Joe lVIcCrum, president: Marion Cannon, Vice-Presidentg Phyllis Kull, secretary, Jack Siebert, treasurer. A dance, and outing and the traditional 12A day were sponsored by the class. The dance held for the 12A's occurred on April 5. This dance was a huge success to the delight of both the class itself and its sponsors. The date set aside for 12A Day was also April 5. On this date the 12A's officially acted the roles of the teachers, taking over all the classes and offices of the administration. The outing held at Birmingham Golf Club was held May 18. The day was spent in golf, riding, dancing, bridge, and lunch. The most outstanding day of the semester was May 25. Commencement exercises were held in the auditorium at ten o'clbck. The Reverend Paul Johns delivered the invocation and Dr. W. D. Henderton of the University of Michigan gave the address. Diplomas were present- ed by Mr. Emmons assisted by Mr. Nielsen. H1911
