CLASS PROPHECY It was in the spring of T955 while I was on vacation from my job as a teacher that I decided to visit a friend of mine in New Hampshire. One day during a walk in the woods, I found I had strayed from the path. Spying a rock nearby, I sat down to rest and soon drifted into the realm of the unknown. During this time a beautiful girl, in a robe of white and her hair a vivid gold, appeared. As she beckoned me to come with her, we vanished on a magic carpet. It was during this time that a voice, which sounded like a clap of thunder, roared, I am at your command, What do you wish? Startled at first by this outburst, I drew myself togethermnd my mind gfrqyed tothe never-to-be forgotten days of C. H. S. My wish was to spend a few days with my old classmates, whom I longed to see. My wish was grant- ed, and once again we started flying through the air on the magic carpet. When we stopped, and not knowing in which direction to go, I began rambling. I had been walking about ten minutes when suddenly I heard a band playing in the distance. As it came nearer and nearer, I saw a tall man leading it. I recognized the man as Terry Dedmon, our old class President. He invited me to come along with him and see a number of my old friends. As we were going down the street, who did I see but Donald Daniels, all decked out in a navy uniform. After a chat, I left Don. As I started down the street, I met Mary McClannon, who is now a nurse at the Baptist Hospital, in Winston-Salem. Suddenly a cry turned my attention to Roberta Shepherd, who is now a doctor at the General Hospital in Washington, and Mary Templeton whose red hair finally won her the fame of becoming a private sec- retary to the President. I was not surprised to find that Rilla Lowder is head typist for the Cub Reporter and is still working hard to get it out on time. While talking to my friend, I learned that Rilla Lagle and her adorable daughter are now liv- ing with her husband in Tennessee. Marlene Canupp told me that she had finally gone in the telephone business in order to keep up with the news and gossip. Bud Ridenhour, who always had a generous heart, finally succeeded in being a Veterinarian. Eugene Cornatzer and Jim Osborne are now serving with the U. S. Army. Eugene has overcome his laziness and .lim has given up sleeping in his Geometry Class, by learning to sleep while standing at attention. Jack Athey and Earl Seaman have gonein business together and now are working in New York. Ronnie Grubb has taken up his hobby as a photographer and made a profession of it. Alvin Shaver, who has been in business with Bing Crosby, has decided to develop a voice suited only to him- self. Freddie Call, who always was quite a lover, is now a star croaner in a great night club called the Star which is owned by a millionaire, Bob Shore. Norman Bowles is now a Preacher at the First Baptist Church in New Hampshire. Berlie Wagner has established her own Modeling Agency and is in business with her cousin, Margie Wagner. Clarence Spillman is now a Professor at Catawba College, where he teaches Chemistry. Jim Holt, who always was the Family Man, has selected his life-long companion and is living in Franklin. Mason Owens, along with Claude Beck and Bill Jarvis, owns a large bus company in Salisbury. Bob Dudley has a business of his own selling used cars in Texas. Feeling that I had seen all my friends, I made my way back to the magic carpet for my iourney home. Still thinking of my friends, I felt myself going down. I saw earth coming up to meet me, and we met with a bang! The next second I became myself and found that I had rolled off the rock on which I had been sleeping. I rose from the ground and began to search for the path of which my dream had brought forth beautiful memories of our yester years. Jannette Stiller PROPHETESS
