SENIOR C ASS HISTORY In the year 1946, approximately fifty-two eager boys and girls embarked on a four-year tour of Cooleemee High School. During this time we made four stops of nine months each. Otu' first stop was made in the Freshman Class. Miss Purcell was homeroom advisor for the girls and Mrs. Bost had the boys to cope with. We elected our class officers which were as follows: President. Wanda Vffilsonz Vice-President. Helen Beck: and Mary Ann Call. Secretary and Treasurer. After adjusting ourselves to our new surroundings, some of us joined the Glee Club. We were happy when Sonny Foster. Bud McClamrock. David Page. Louie Beck made the baseball team and David Page and Sonny Foster made the basketball team. As the year was drawing to a close. we felt we had accomplished much in our first year of high school. Leaving room for the on-coming freshmen. we progressed to our next stop. Our stay in the Sophomore Class was delightful. Mrs. YVaynick and Mr. Sinclair were our homeroom teachers. We elected officers with the thought that they might give us a little advice when and if we needed it. They were as follows: Tommy Smith, President: Joe Cuthrell. Vice-President: VVanda 'Wilson, Reporter: and Bill Franklin, Secretary and Treasurer. They proved very dependable. During this year we presented two one-act comedies. Eh and The Shock of His Life, under the direction of Mrs. Waynick, which we thought were very successful. Again a number of us joined the Glee Club. and Jean Viiagner made the basketball team and Peggy Wyrick was a cheerleader. Since this was the first year of football imagine our pride when Sonny Foster, Tommy Smith fwho were the starsj. Bud McClamrock, David Page, and Louie Beck made the football team. Our Junior year proved to be very enjoyable, except for the studies. Miss MacMahan was our homeroom advisor. The class officers were elected as follows: President. Bobby Edwards: Vice-President. Betty Shockley: Secretary, Peggy Wyrickg and Treasurer. David Page. Realizing we would have to find some means for financial support. we presented a three-act play, Aunt Samanthy Rules the Roost. The biggest event of that year was our Junior-Senior Banquet which was held in the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Winston-Salem. North Carolina. The theme of the banquuet, Rhapsody in Blue. was carried out all through the program. During this year Sonny Foster, Bud McClamrock, Marshall Clawson. Jackie Tutterow, David Page. Howard Leonard, and Louie Beck made the football team. Jean Wagner and Doris Veach made the basketball team. We felt very proud of ourselves after our participation in the Commencement Ebcercises with five Juniors acting as Marshals and the remaining acting as ushers to the Seniors. We were then looking forward to our Senior year. Our last stop was in the Senior Class. Mrs. Hicks was our homeroom advisor and our class had dwindled down to thirty, Our class officers for this year were: DeFoie Shoaf, President: Marshal Clawson. Vice-President: Wanda Wilson, Secre- tary: David Page. Treasurerg and Howard Leonard. Reporter. As usual we were represented in sports when Sonny Foster, Bud McClamrock. David Page. Marshall Clawson, Louie Beck. Jackie Tutterow. DeFoie Shoaf. and Howard Leonard made the football team, Under the direction of Mrs. Hicks we carried out many activities. such as, pre- senting our class play. A Ready Made Family. We are looking foiwvard to the annual Junior-Senior Banquet to bc given in honor of us. the Seniors of '50, our trip to Washington, D. C., and the greatest event of all. our Commencement Exercises. After waiting twelve years. we have reached our destination. Graduation! Most of us have a touch of sadness in our hearts, because we have probably spent the most enjoyable years of our lives here inside the walls of dear Coolemee High School. VVith much to look forward to in the future. and with the hope that we will use the knowledge and training that we acquired for tht- making of a greater world, we leave our school days behind.
