Ten SENIOR CLASS HISTORY THE CURTAIN RISKS! Our hearts beat with excitement. Our time has come at last. For four years we have worked and waited for this moment. We walk proudly upon the stage and play our part. The cur- tain falls, the applause dies, and there is silence. The drama of the Class of 19-I3 is over. Our pleasures, struggles, and our achievements have become history. Only the memory of the play remains. If, however, we wish to roll the curtain of time back, the four years of our high school life are en- acted again as vividly as if we turned the pages of a well known book and found our history. In the fall of 1939 we entered into the realm of high school. We were very much confused and bewildered but we soon be- came adjusted and got to work with a will. The boys and girls were separated. The boys were sent to Mrs. Bost's room and to Mr. Hendrix. The Home Economics girls went to Mrs. Bohnson's room and the rest to Miss Horn's room. In a very short time commencement came and it was a great occasion for us. This year we felt we were really getting into the im- portant part of our education. Now we were no longer freshmen, but sophomores, and we realized that our goal was slowly being reached. During our sopho- more year we were still separated, but we worked together in perfect harmony just the same. Soon, however, commencement came again. This time we became juniors. jimmie Pierce was elected class president and we began a busy, successful year with plenty of energy. All of our new privileges made us realize that it was worth while working two years to get to be a junior, and at last the longed for event came-the junior-Senior Banquet. Even the hard work it took to make it a success was fun. We carried away many happy memories which we shall cherish al- NVHYS. The last act of the drama was drawing near. Next year we would be seniors. Time passed and once more we were re- turning to Cooleemee High School. This year it seemed as if we were going home. This year we were impressed by being seniors and tried harder than ever before. With the thoughts of graduation, all of the work that lay before us, the joy and work of it all, we felt different. Many important things had to be done this year. Jimmie Pierce again became our presi- dent. Our Senior Play Lighthouse Nan was quite a success and when we boarded THE INDI!-IN
