W ' 1 'F ,421 Midshipman Bemis has the conn Forty-five midshipmen from various NROTC units spent eight Weeks, from July 12 to September 3 on board the Coolbaugh for summer training. They spent approximately one-third of the time in each of the three training subdivi- sions: engineering, operations, and gunnery. The midshipmen Were integrated into the ship's Watch bill rather than assigning them merely as observers. They served in capacities as junior oflicer of the deck, helmsman, lookout, and burnerman and throttleman in the engineering spaces. The midshipmen manned their own gun- firing stations and fired at drones, sleeves, and surface sleds. On September 3 they disembarked to return to their colleges and universities to continue their studies.
