Y l xx - OU R MOTTO The Class of '54 is faring forth with one destination in view--success. Wouldn't it make our iourney easy if we had a well-drawn map directing us there? However, There is no map of the road to Success: you must find your own. The whole purpose of our schooling has been to prepare us for charting that map. Already, however, we have found that the task will be life-long and difficult. A Bible teacher illustrated it for us by a picture: through the hills and valleys of Life there are two roads. These sometimes crossed each other, sometimes they ran parallel, sometimes they faded in the distance. The ways presented beauties, difficulties, steep ascents, and many diversities. Bur there were no printed signs to direct the pilgrim-he, and he alone, must make the choice. He knows that at the crest of one road is Success, at the crest of the other, Failure-which way shall he go? That is our task-to choose the right road. Hence our Motto: There is no map of the road to Success: you must nnd your own. Ardella Daywalt RED AND WHITE The Class of 54 chose their colors Red and White for three reasons hrst we liked the idea of our personal emblem includinr the colors which symbolize for us patriotism second an emblem suggesting to us the traits of character we would have third an emblem recalling always happy days at Cool Spring High The primary color red stands for bravery courage and an unwavering determination to succeed The secondary color white stands for purity and holds integrity as its highest virtue And so we the boys and girls of 1954 stepping out of the shelter of school life into the unknown of the actual workaday world beyond realize the need of this physical and moral courage Thus we hope that the red in our emblem will continue to be a stimulus Likewise may the white challenge us to keep our thoughts upon a high plane Yes brave and pure of motive in all that we may think or say or do throughout all the course of our lives is the challenge of our Red and White badge Sara Freeland Ruby Nance THE RED ROSE As their class flower the Class of 54 has chosen the red rose The rose one of the most beautiful of all flowers is a symbol of fragrance and loveliness Red and white our class colors signify courage and purity Armed with these four qualities we shall chart our map of the road to Success Catherine Myers and Gladys Young X Thx Rss Km N XXXQ 1 R S- N S,X ' 7' if-c 59 fb-sX Q'-N .reb- XX Ra..-1-15 R 28 X-.. . h . w- l . - 2 .
