One step is not too much to take, One try is not too much to make. l One step, one try, one song, one smile, will shortly stretch into a mile. SECRETARY On September seventh we Sophomores wearily started our journey through the nine long months of school. We reported to our home room203 and were surprised to see Mr. Fugina, our new advisor. The first thing we did was elect our class officers. For the executive seat we elected Mary, in case of her death her duties will be taken over by Dick. Norma became our Secretary, and Faye took over our financial problems. As football season kicked around we were proud to have Andy, Dick, Ken, Wally, Vern, John, Gluey, and David representing our class on the team. Most of the girls joined the F.T.A. and Byron, Keith, and Gluey are members of the F.F.A. The chorus was well supported with most of us attending. As basketball season rolled around Wally, Andy, Dick, Ken, Gluey, Norman, Keith, Vern, David, and John appeared as our stars. Leading the cheering were Mary and Ardyce. For the basketball homecoming Janice was chosen as our Lady-In-Waiting. She was escorted by our basketball star, Wally, Our class led the sale of magazines with Ardyce as the top sahxman. For our selling ability we were given a party. Most of us joined the Square Dance Club and Mary was elected as the secretary-treasurer. Ardyce, Keith, and Barbara Trygg represented our class in speech. Though we've accomplished little we've had a lot of fun as Soph- omores and are looking forward to becoming Juniors. The first riot occurred when we chose class officers. We finally decided on the following: President, Doris Falkg Vice President, Donald Delichg Secretary-Treasurer, John Haryng G.O. Representative Mickey Karni. Most of our girls serve in F.T.A., under Mrs. Goehring's able h d? ership. We enjoy giving assistance to the elementary teachers who are thankful for a brief rest during their busy day. The girls also assist in the library, giving their valuable time to make it a better place in which to learn and study. The singers in our class meet every Friday, to practice the songs our director, Mrs. Wurzel, would have us sing. A highlight in our mu- sical training was a trip to Duluth, last fall, where we sang as a part of a large chorus. Another event we can be, and are proud of is the fact that the ma- jority of our boys tried out for football and basketball. The hazy au- tumn afternoons provided diversion from boring studies. Our boys came in from the field grimy, triumphant and happy Coccasionallyl that is. Later on basketball games gave us an opportunity to show good spmtsmnr- ship. Harlan, a nveterann by now, serves our team as nwater boyu. Another highlight of the year was when all of the Junior Cheer- leaders came from our Freshman class. They were Hope, Shirley, Mary Lou and Beatrice, who did a fine job in leading the cheers. Throughout our Freshman year, we've all had loads of fun, and kE's hope there's more in Store for us in our coming Sophomore year. Sri Ollll - H 'QQ mfs? W X r f ? 5. J 'nu 'V' -l!ll' .0 q i . In l93O, the American Legion offered its services to the State Department of Highways in promoting, sponsoring,N and installing school safety patrols throughout the state and has participated actively since that time. Other organizations have also cooperated in this movement such as the Parent-Teachers Association. In 1933 the state legislature authorized the organization of school safety patrols. School Safety Patrol instructs and protects members of the student body in crossing streets and highways at or near the sduxd. The students that make up the patrol volunteer their services and are selected by the school principal. It has been found that the students in the lower grades per- form this duty more successfully than others. Generally the-Prin- cipal of the school is advisor of the organization. Through him the students are given the training. Each summer the American Legion and Minnesota Highway Depart- ment hold a summer school patrol camp. Last year the two boys from Cook who were sent to the camp were James Lahti and Frank Parzyck. This year the camp will be held at Legionville, Minnesota, on North Long Lake near Brainard. Two boys from Cook will again be selected by the Local American Legion Post. While at camp the boys are given the training which is necessary in promoting good Patrol systems. The Cook Safety Patrol is made up of lO boys from grades 6 and 7. Mr. Germ is their advisor.
