One way students at Cook High express their style is the way they dress. Coca-Cola came out with a clothing label that had everyone running to the stores, and Reebok gave a new zing to the aerobic scene with their soft hi-tops that come in everyone’s favorite color. Also, those crazy Swiss watch makers made us Americans crazy with the colorful, scented, and glow-in-the-dark Swatch watch. The Anchor Club shows their style when they initiate new Anchors by dressing them up so ridiculously that it is almost impossible to recognize them. Marching with heads held high, the Cook High School Marching Band shows their style with glittering uniforms and dazzling smiles. Opening 3 Students at CHS are experts at making even the dullest of situations fun. Students keep their sense of humor throughout the days filled with tardy slips, tests, long lunch lines, homework, substitute teachers, and potholes in the parking lots. Students do things “Just For The Fun Of It” because they know deep-down that these years will be the most special ever. Joy is the special feeling people experience that makes their spirits soar and their days brighter. People express feelings of joy in different ways — jumping up and down, laughing, screaming, hugging someone, smiling, or maybe combining some or all of these. People at CHS ex- press feelings of joy at pep rallies, at sporting events, when making an “A” on a test, and when that special someone notices them. When students think of high school, many things come to mind. These things include growing up, learning new things, making new friends, having fun, and exploring new horizons. Cook High offers an environ- ment in which all of these take place. Cook High has the characteristic boring classes, tardy bells, bottom lockers, research papers, and miserable Monday mornings. However Cook High also has great teachers who care, clubs, and crazy times, too. Whatever you want in a 14 Opening high school, Cook High has it. COOK IS IT! COOK IS IT! The Annual Staff is the sponsor of the Miss CHS Pageant, and members of the staff are responsible for various aspects of preparation for the pageant. Mr. Ted Holt keeps the contest running smoothly as our Master of Ceremonies; Mr. CHS, Craig Betts, provides us with a solo entitled “At This Moment”; Tom Fausett plays a selection by Chopin on the piano; Connie Thomas from “Connie’s Country Corner,” Carolyn Harris, and the Horticulture Classes donate all flowers and decora- tions for the pageant. These wonderful people make the 1987 Miss CHS Pageant a super success and a special “Thanks” goes out to each of you for all your help. If you visualize yourself winning Then you’ll come shining through. Winners are those who think they can, And all achievers find That their accomplishments come from A winning state of mind. Winners aren’t always the fastest Or the strongest woman or man, But they are always winning Because they think they can. We Love You, Daddy, Mama Thomas Angela Dickerson Ad 201 • 1 DAVID GRAHAM David, When things go wrong as they sometimes will. When the road you’re treading seems up hill. When funds are low and the debts are high. When life is so bad that you want to cry. And care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, But don’t you quit. Life is strange with its twists and turns As everyone of us sometimes learns. And many a failure has turned about. When he might have won had he stuck it out. So don’t give up though the pace seems slow. You might succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer that it seems to a faint and flattering man. Often the struggler has given up, when he might have captured the victor’s cup. He learned too late when the nights slipped down. How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out. It’s a determined man on a chosen route. You never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far. So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit. It’s when things seem worst that YOU MUST NOT QUIT! Always remember we love you and support you. Mama, Tony, Chad, and “My” Nanny 202 Ate ROBIN MICHAEL CONGRATULATIONS! Psalms 37:4 We love you, Grandma and Papa MICHELLE POWERS Michelle, For me this has come too soon. I wish we had more time. There are no limitations in this life, except the ones we make in our own minds. Now go for it! I love you so much, Your mom and friend 204 Ads DONNA TAYLOR Donna, we’ve loved you since before you were born, but we’ve never been more proud of you than we are right now. For God to give you to us for our daughter has truly been a blessing to your Daddy and me. As we prepare to leave this phase of your life, we pray for your happiness and success in all you under- take. You can see any dream come true if you include God in it. Go to Him daily. Share your dreams and hopes with your heavenly Father and ask Him to bless them. Then believe that they will come to pass and they will, because all things are possible to them that believe. — BELIEVE — That one word taken to heart can change your life. Believe in God’s power to transform you and situations around you. Believe in yourself and the talents God gave you. Believe and there is no limit to what you can accomplish. II II . •• _ . i %v • M If '• !, • — r- : ' M III ■— Editor’s Message The High school years provide a unique experience that help make us who we are through new challenges, new friends, heartaches, and triumphs. This mixture of ups and downs is probably the most special time in our lives and should never be forgotten. The 1987 ACORN exists to preserve our high school memories through words and photographs. Years from now, we can open this book and rediscover the places and faces of 1987. Cook High is truly a classic high school which has everything a school should have. Cook High has outstanding teachers and a great administration. Together they provide an excep- tional environment for learning. Cook High combines the importance of learning with the development of well-rounded individuals which make us better people while providing a solid foundation on which to build our future. The long nights spent doing homework, the football games, the tardy slips, the pep rallies, the research papers, the club meetings, the boring classes, and the “wonderful” lunches along with the many other experiences that we students have, make us who we are. COOK IS IT! — truly a CLASSIC! 216 Editor’s
