The new day promises a wish for luck and we’re on our way. Before the rising sun — we fly. So many roads to choose. We start out walking and learn to run. And yes we’ve just begun. Do you know where you’re going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to? Do you know? Now looking back at all we planned. We let so many dreams just slip through our hands. Why must we wait so long before we see how sad the answers to those questions can be? Do you get what you’re hoping for? When you look behind you there’s no open door. What are you hoping for? Do you know? I can’t cover up my feelings in the name of love or play it safe for a while that was easy; and if living for myself is what I’m guilty of, go on and sentence me. I’ll still be free. It’s my turn to see what I can see. I hope you’ll understand this time just for me because it’s my turn to reach and touch the sky, no one’s gonna say, at least I didn’t try. It’s my turn. When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high and don’t be afraid of the dark. At the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark. Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain, though your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, walk on with love in your heart and you’ll never walk alone. You’ll never walk alone. And yes we’ve just begun. Sharing horizons that are new to us. Watching the signs along the way. Each turn will bring a diffrent view to us, working together day to day together — together. And when the evening comes, we smile. So much of life ahead. We’ll find a place where there’s room to grow. And yes we’ve just begun. We’ve only just begun. We’ve only just begun. The anticipation of graduation and being able to say good-bye to teachers, homework, and tardy bells was what kept us going through the years. But now, when the time to walk up the stairs for the last time and clean out our lockers is here, deep down inside, we are somewhat reluctant to leave this place that has become such a valuable part of our lives. We’re eager to leave, but the truth is that in the years to come, when we look back on our lives and our times at Cook High, we will tell our children just as our parents told us — “Those were the BEST years of my life.” Working as editor of the 1982 Acorn has been a very rewarding experience for me. It takes so much time and energy to put together a great book such as Acorn ’82 and it is my wish that you can treasure all the memories of your life that it holds in its pages. I’d like to thank every member of the Acorn Staff, especially Lisa Martin and Lora Fulp for sticking in there to the end. Each of you, al- though inexperienced, gave it your best shot and did a great job. I think very highly of all your efforts and most important your dedica- tion through broken typewriters, deadlines, and lost photographs. Harold Day and his fantastic staff deserve spe- cial thanks because without their hard work this yearbook would not be possible. Thank you, Duwane Lewis, Dillard Ensley, Gail Hughes, and Brenda Barker for all you do for us. You are appreciated more than you know. Kathy Fletcher Editor
