The many days we,ve spent here The knowledge we,ve attained, Will help us meet more wisely Whatever may await. So' to our Alma Mater We sadly bid adieu. W e leave to face the future, But our hearts remain with you. 3 j0I'2WOI'J High school days are happy days. They are days of memories, gladness, and laughter. We have designed our 1958 IRIS to remind us of these happy days, both now and in the years to come. We are fully aware of the many difficulties we must face, and we shall meet them as best We can. As we go forth in search of our vocation, we shall have memorable years of beneficial schooling as our guide. We now present with great pride and satisfaction our 1958 IRIS. 4 l Aalicafion We, the members of the class of 1958 Conyngham- Centralia ,loint High School, dedicate the thirty-first volume of the IRIS to the memory of our beloved teacher and friend. Miss Anna M. Gillespie, who died September 3, l95T. She devoted her life to the education of the youth of this community and to giving them a firm foundation on which they could place their future work and respon- sibilities. We shall strive to follow her example. With our sadness will be mingled a steadfast faith that she will be with us in spirit, and as we take our respective places in the world we shall often think of her and shall find that our lives will he richer because we have known her as a loyal teaelier and a trustworthy friend. 5 .fdlolo recia f ion ADVISER MISS MC DONNELL We, the class of 1958, wish to express our sincere appreciation for the guidance and understanding which you have so willingly given us in our four years of high school. Thank you, Miss McDonnell, for guiding us along the path to future success and happiness. You have made our school life both a profitable and happy experience. 6 W , X X W Q 1 Wifi fr 9 X X, Earn! of gyucafion CON- CEN JOINT SCHOOL BOARD CENTRALIA John Coddington, Presidentg John Lavelle, Vice-Presidentg William O'Connor, Secretaryg John Wills, Treasurerg Walter Reb. Experience will be your teacher and disciplinarian, much more than has been the case in the past. Here assigned tasks you will find more difficult to accomplish. The greatest lessons you will learn will be from lives heroically lived around you. There is a service to be rendered by each one of you, and, in order to serve well, you must constantly strive to improve. Your school wishes you all possible success and is ready to rejoice when you rejoice and feel regret if you do not succeed. l '14 fifwifv. mx QQKWQWKUWQLQF 5 CAROLYN DEE BURCE Burgie', Centralia Business Course Burgie is nice and friendly too, Girls like her are very few.H Intramurals 1, 2, 3, 43 Press Club 4-g The Iris Staffg Class Night. CON - CEN MEMORIES We shall dream of the halls of Con - Cen When we find ourselves alone, Dreaming of the happy moments That the fleeting years have shown. We shall often be reminded That the best things life extends Are associated closely With our teachers and our friends. Memories of our high school, how often, They bring wistfully to mind, Recollections of the joys And the fun we've left behind. How they will fill our hearts with gladness As they carry us away, To the scenes of youth and laughter, And the joys of yesterday. Mary McGinley 30 Clit, sim, To the tune of Danny Boyu The past is past, This is the night we,ve waited for. Our school days cease, we start our life anew. A toast to friends and pals, and all the old days, Our future's dim, our fate we can not know. H ere's to the tears, the friendship, and the good times We shared throughout our years at Con-Cen High. And all the darkness of the unknown venture ' Will brighten with our thoughts of Senior year. Now one last step, a door is softly closing, For 58n no more the school bells chime. We had our fun and now a new day is dawning. Our class must part, as all the rest have done. Still in our hearts we'll always remember, Our friends, our chzssmates, our teachers dear. Oh, Alma Mater, all we ever hope to be, We owe to thee, our dear old Con-Cen High. Ili an the hard drives '9 ' come my way I thank You for the compli- ment. Help me to remember that You won't let anything come that You and I together can't handle. And help me to take the bad breaks as part of the game. Help make me thankful for them. And, God, help me always to play on the square, no matter what the other players do. Help me to come clean. Help me to see that often the best part of the game is helping the other guys. Help me to be a 'regular' fellow with the other players. Finally, Cod, if fate seems to uppercut me with both hands and lim laid up on the shelf in sickness or old age, help me to take that as part of the game also. Help me not to whimper or squeal that the game was a frameup or that I had a raw deal. When in the dusk I get the final bell, I ask for no lying, complimentary stones.
