The council con- sists ofelected officers and class representa- tives, eleven seniors, nine juniors, and seven sophomores. The council meets every Wed- nesday on alternate periods with their sponsor Mr. Faye Smith. It is the council's job to see that the concerns of the student body are given proper consideration in the activity program of the school. ' ik Standard of Awards i Conway FFA Chapter won their ninth consecutive Gold Emblem in the National FFA Chapter Contest. The contest is based on supervisedfarm- ing leadership and cooperative activities. The chapter had the distinction of having three State Farmers last year. They were Gary I-Iegi, Thomas Johnson, and Dwight Davis. Davis also won the Star District Farmer Award. The award was based on superior farm work at home, leadership training, and scholastic records. The chapter won the sweepstakes honors at the Annual FFA Northwest Arkansas District Contest at Arkansas Polytechnic College, Many blue ribbons were won by members of the chapter at the local county fair and at the State Livestock Exposition in Little Rock. At the top of the listwere Kelley Watson, first place in the Guernsey junior hiefer division, and Johnny Irby, first place in the Guernsey senior year- ling hiefer division. During the summer co-editors Kathleen Purtle and Beth Borden, and Mrs. Russ attendeda yearbook work- shop at ASTC, It was directed by Professor Paschall, head of the Journalism department at Amarillo High School, and Mr. D-Eon Priest of Colorpress, Inc. The representatives made plans for a better-than-ever yearbook. The yearbook is financed from proceeds of the An- nual Beauty Review, selling advertisements to mer- chants, and selling yearbooks to students. The books sell for 53. 00 each, As an extra activity, staff members painted Mrs. Russ' classroom, which is also used as a staff room. The Cats had six men on the All-Districtteam. All of these boys were seniors but one, .Tack Ward, a junior. Also two of these men made the double A, twenty- two man, All -State Squad. They were quarterback Edward Turner and tackle Bill Sevier. Mr. Hickznan, instructor, supervises Marion May and Tom Burney as they assemble a motor. T-. Home Economics offers three years in homemaking. These include courses in providing food, providing clothes, and pro- blems in groorning and personal develop- ment, making the home livable and attrac- tive, caring for children, managing time and money, and studying farnily relation- ships. The Future Homemakers program. embodied inthe FHA chapter, is an integral part of the Home Economics course. Overall goal ofthe program is to develop understanding of one's privileges and re- sponsibilities of citizenship, and to en- courage participation and leadership in home, school, and community activities. VocationalAgricultureprovides a well rounded course in all farm activities. About fifty percent of instruction and training is in farm shop work. The Future Farmers program is so much a part of the agriculture course that the two can not be separated. Three years of Vocational Agriculture are offered in CHS. Agri boys practice the LIVING TO SERVE ideal of their motto by performing many services for the school. One project this year was the sanding and refinishing of all the desk tops in Senior High.
