Signed June Hoa lin CSenior Class of 19535 CLASS PROPHECY As I was gliding through the air in my new hydrogen-propelled flying saucer, I decided that I needed a change of weather. This decision led me to sunny Florida. As I was flying over the outskirts of Florida, a terrible wind came up. I didn't know whether it was one of those hurricanes they have so often or what. Whatever it was, I decided I'd better land. I land- ed in a big pasture field. Then I heard some yelling up toward the house. As I neared what did I see but Betty Sewers calling her chickens. As you all have heard she is getting great profits from her chicken ranch. After she got her chickens fed, she invited me into her modern ranch house, she asked me to stay overnight as there was a carnival in town the next day. when the next morning arrived, we rushed around to get ready, as it is quite a drive from her place to Miami. It was considerable work for Betty as she had to get her two children ready. When we arrived at the carnival, which was none to soon for the children we were greeted by the UStemen Jazz Bandu. Later I learned it was my old classmate Rodney Stemen. NRodN told us when we got hungry to go to the 'Highlight Standn, that they served the best meals in town. we thanked him and were on our way. While we were eating I happened to notice the cashier, and was I surprised I It was none other than Rosanna Purk. Also after a second look I saw the waitresses: Na Donna Baer, Rosalee and Ellen Barnhart. But then they all worked in a restaurant while they were in school. It seems that Rosanna owned the restaurant and the other girls just worked part-time and were secretaries for the UTrimble Law Firmn. I always knew John would enter the business headlines. Betty decided that we might as well make a day of it so we took in the grandstand opening. The program was featuring Myers's Thoroughbred White Mice Race and Speelman and Lare Auto-Daredevils. Over. there stands Byron giving the mice their last orders. They're on the mark, there goes the gun! They're off I Just like they're jet-propelled. Wait 1 What's that? why it looks like a-rabbit, it's in the race too. Now what's that, Thunder? Oh, I see it's Regina Pierce cheering her rabbit. The race is coming to the home stretch. There comes Barney behind the mice with a black snake whip. Get along you mice. Haw 2Haw 3And it's a photo finish. The winner NThe Whitest Mouse by a Hairn. Now comes Speelman and Lare's Auto Daredevils, successors of Joie Chitwood. Here comes the great men themselves, Carl and Paul, coming out in their light blue and black H2 Fords, which they owned while they were still in school. There goes Carl in his car up on some boards and here comes Paul around beside the boards. Wow 1 Carl's car leaped over Paul's car. They're getting out of their cars. Carl lights a cigar. Oh! Someone just shot-the end of it off. Why it looks like Buffalo Bill. Now, I remember since John Taylor is Buffalo Bill's successor, he has quite an act. He does many skills with his gun. After the show I decided to stay another day and go to the beach. I arrived at the beach late and it was pretty well crowded. But that's the fun, you see all kinds of sights. As I was trying to find a place to relax, I stumbled across Mary Pancake taking dictation from Ralph Schumm. Mary is secretary to the Schumm Electric Toenail Cleaning Factory. The Electric Toenail Cleaner is guaranteed to do your toenails in just a jiffy. After the talk, I decided I would get me an ice cream cone. Election of class officers was postponed until acquaintances were better estab- lished. DRIVER'S EDUCATION Mr. Edwards recently attended a meeting pertaining to driverfs educa- tion at Columbus. Here are some of the statistics he brought back. There are M90 schools in the state of Ohio offering driver's education and 13, 083 students. The average class is of 10 to 20 students. Van Wert, York, and Convoy-Union are the schools in Van Wert County that offer driver's training. We feel that dr1ver's education is an important course and hope it will help to solve many accidents in the future. After the second look, I noticed they were Shirley Gaskill and Shirley Purk. They didn't recognize me until I spoke to them. After talking for quite awhile, they told me they were detectives for the F.B,I., investi- gating the gambling and racketeering going on. From there they told me they would go to Washington to investigate the Communist's activities. On my way back to where I had left my belongings, I saw some people painting and modeling, I ventured over close to see because as most of you know I like to draw a little myself. When I got close enough I seen that two of them were Mary Sue Orsbon and Imogene Saco. I wasn't too surprised as I had been reading of their success in the papers, and was thinking I might try my hand at it. While I was watching the artists, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome joined us. They looked so happy and Helen was as pretty as always. Helen told me that they lived in New York and was just vacationing for the month in Florida. She asked me to come and visit them the next month and we could go and see,the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers play. I told her I would do my best to go and visit her as I had always wanted to see those two great teams play and more than ever now as two of my classmates play on the Dodgers' team. Tom May with a record of hoo plays first, and Lowell Etzler also with a rec- ord of hoo plays shortstop. The newspapers and commentators say that Tom and Lowell are the next Joe DiMaggios. When I got to Betty's house that evening everything was in a confusion. Betty was so worried as her little girl, Betsy, was all broken out with some kind of rash. She didn't' have an idea what it was as Betsy never had any- thing like that before. I suggested thati we take Betsy to the hospital to get a check up. When we arrived at the Miami Memorial Hospital and checked in, they assigned us to a room where we were to wait, until a nurse ar- rived. After waiting for what seemed like hours, two nurses came to take us to the doctor. You would never guess who the nurses were--Rosalyn Fisher and Shirley Frane. We found out that they were the two assistants to the very famous diagnostic doctor, June Hoaglin. I talked to Shirley and Rosa- lyn while Betsy was getting examined. They told me of their success and that they enjoyed their work very much. They told me of reading the Miami Liberator Newspaper, the best selling paper in the state of Florida, of which Max Hoaglin is editor. There was a meeting of the Farmer's Association which was to be held before the public that night at the Town Hall. The purpose of the meeting was to award metals to the five outstanding farmers of the state. Rosalyn and Shirley told me that they thought that a couple of boys from our former Senior High School might have a chance of winning a metal, as four or five of the boys were farming down there since they had finished school. I told them after a few words with June, I would attend the meeting as it probably would be about the last time for awhile before I would ever get the chance of seeing any of the former members of the Convoy-Union High School. That night after the program was presented and the metals were awarded, it was to my surprise that not too but four of my former classmates out of five parki- cipating won the metals. They were Jim Clark, Roger Welch, Lynn Rhoades, and Lloyd Etzler. They had been members of the future farmers while in school. CCont.J It seems that they all own farms and are getting great profits from them. In fact this year they are experimenting with a new nitrogen fertilizer which is supposed to yield twice as many crops to the acre. That night, I decided that I had prolonged my visit long enough and the next week I was expected home so I made up my mind that I would leave the following morning. After I got packed and was ready to start, I discovered that the steering rod in my flying saucer was cracked. I was afraid to take the chance would have Convoy and After quiet ride of driving home with the rod like it was, so Betty told me she it taken to a garage and I could catch the next plane leaving for come after the saucer later. I got my ticket and boarded the plane, I settled down for a nice I decided I would like a magazine to read so I rang the buzzer for a stewardess and much to my surprise, Beverly McDaniel answered my ring. After I got over my surprise, she told me that she had entered training school for airline stewardess after she had gotten out of school. She also told me that Evelyn Girod was also an airline stewardess and I would get to see her when I changed planes about half way home. After I changed planes and was settled, Evelyn came up and we had quite a chat. I told her of my seeing all my classmates but one, Joan Baker, and what a surprise it was when she told me Joan was on the same plane, so she went and got her. While Joan and I were talking, she told me that she was teaching school at convoy-Union High School under Mr. Linn, who is still superintendent. She told me that just the other day, Mr. Linn had called her into the office to tell her that he is about to retire and the board would like to know if Joan would consider taking over his job. After the plane landed, I caught a taxi home for a short visit. As I was on my way to my job, I stopped over at Helen's home in New York to go to the ballgame with Helen and Jerry. While I was there, I heard over the radio about Gene Helm, the great chemist, having discovered which came first the chicken or the egg. For the answer, you will have to wait until he has gotten a patent on it. Gene is a married man now.
