SENIOR CLASS HISTORY With our graduation so near at hand, it is hard to believe that we were once bashful first-graders. when we first entered school on that day in September, twelve years ago,we were just a little bit afraid of that big building with so many peo- ple in it. But as time went on, we became adjusted to our new environment, and before long we felt as though we really belonged there. Ior the first six years, our lessons consisted of 'read1n , 'r1t1n , and 'r1thmet1c'. Then, as we approached the seventh grade, we began to look forward to the beginning of our high school years. This was something new, too. Of spe- cial importance in our eighth grade year was the State Test,on which sever- al of our classmates received high ratings. As Freshmen we had to face the ridicule of our upper classmen. We were forced to dress and act like morons during our initiation period. After the Sophomores entertained us at our initiation party, we felt capable of with- standing anything the world had to offer. Miss McDonald, the Home Economics teacher, was our sponsor, and Walter McDaniel, our president. Under the sponsorship of Miss West in our Sophomore year, we enter- tained the Freshmen at an initiation party that was equal to what we had experienced as Freshmen. Walter McDaniel was again our president. The La- tin Club was organized this year, and our Latin students became its first members. At the beginning of our Junior year, we began to think of some ways to earn money. We had a skating party, a bake sale, and sold refreshments at basketball games. We elected Betty Sinn president and Mr. Alexander was our sponsor. The prom theme we chose was 'A Heavenly Ball'. We spent many weeks in preparation for this big event. With the help of our sponsor and the cooperation of our classmates we felt very proud of the result. The Junior-Senior Reception was, in our minds, a success. Then the big year dawned on us. Weighted down with all the 'extras' that accompany the Senior year, we undertook our responsibilities with full anticipation of the festivities of our graduation. Our biggest problem was that of raising money for our class trip. We held a skating party, a bake sale, operated the candy store, sold refreshments at basketball games, edi- ted the annual, and had a carnival. Betty Sinn was again our president, and Mr. Linn, our sponsor. We are planning to go to Washington D. C. for our class trip. Now, with commencement just ahead, we set forth from Con- voy High School, proud of the record that we, the class of l9b9 have made. 10
