HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1950 In the warm sunny month of September, 1938, the school bells summoned us, as newcomers, to join in the activites within. We were starry-eyed, amazed, and somewhat scared of this new place and of our teacher. But soon we were as much a part of it as we were of our homes. Miss Mildred Temple started us in our field of learning the subjects that are necessary in life, reading, writing arithmetic, literature, music, and drawing. These nine months passed quickly and we were promoted to the second grade. Mrs. Norma Carey met us at the door this time and added to our know- ledge a few more facts. Then habitually, we passed from grade to grade with Mrs. Helen Smith as instructor for our third, Miss Jessie Driver for our roursn, Mrs. Rema Mohr and Mrs. Mary Myers for our fifth, and Miss Driver again as our sixth grade teacher. Then we chlldren were standing on UDB threshold, beholdlng another moment filled with anxiety. We were promoted upstairs. The seventh and eighth grades passed rapidly, and then came high school. . The first month of high school proved to be warm and oheerful--Fresh- man Initiation--. Months went somewhat slower, later, but eventually they passed, as did the Sophomore year. a How as Juniors, we are looking forward to other greet moments in our lives,--Senior activities and graduation--. When it comes, we, together, will meet it. 13

HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1951 In 1939 we started our education with a class of L3. Little did we know what was ahead of us in the next eleven years. But now that we look back over the years,we recall different incidents that constituted our hap- py elementary YBBIS. Among these were an operetta entitled 'Aunt Druci- lla's Garden', which we gave in the sixth grade with the help of the fourth and fifth grades. Also in the sixth grade, we had a minstrel show that was part of a program by the entire school. We all found this was fun, because we were dressed to look like 'darkies'. In 1945 we entered the seventh grade with a class of 33. We found it rather confusing, since the seventh and eighth grades are included in the high school. But we finally became accustomed to it, through the help of our upper-classmen. we were now eligible for class parties, so we took ad- vantage of it with two parties, a 'Scavenger Hunt' and a weiner roast at Snyder's grove. Aside from these parties, we visited Van Wert to see the Brumback Library, the County Court House, and the County Jail. In the eighth grade wa accompanied by the seventh grade, had a skating party at the Y.W.C.A. in Van Wert. After taking our 'Eighth Grade State Test' we journeyed to Fort Wayne where we had an excursion of the points of interest of that city. Upon enterihg the Freshmen Class, we still had an enrollment of 33. We assembled for the first time as Freshmen under the advisership of Hr. Smith and elected the following to serve as class officers for the year: Howard Klausmeier, president, Jun - secretaryftreasurer, Darlene Jones and LeRoy Hoaglin, reporters. omoresinitiated us into high school on October the ior Bauer, vice president, Velma Hoverman, The Soph- eighth. We had three other parties during this year. We now have 29 members through a loss of four of our class mates. Our officers for this year are: Doyt Schaadt, president, Robert Knittle, vice- president, Velma Hoverman, secretary-treasurer, and Barbara Gaskill and Hur vin Barkley, reporters. lr. Sswmiller is our adviser. As Sophomores we have had the honor of initiating our under-classmen. And now, as Sophomores, we are looking forward to the next two years, our last years. In both of these years we hope to find as many happy times and to acquire as much knowledge as we have in these first ten years. 15
