THE BELLEROPHON .zninic zuiuinuzugcz 1 nicnlurimsinsinjoimrisvi VALUES In thinking about values, it may sur- prise some that this word should be used as a subject in an educational year hook. There are, however, real values in edu- cation. It seems to me that one of the most important values in acquiring education is learning to Work and like it. The old saying, No excellence without great labor, is quite true. No greater satisfac- tion can come to one than the realization of having done Well some difficult task. Education opens many doors to oppor- tunity which will remain entirely closed to the uneducated. It broadens the horizons. It enables the possessor to appreciate much more the best in litera- ture, art, music, travel, all ol' which are true values. I can recall many pleasures of my bygone school days, but I am not one who sighs and says that the happiest days of life are one's school days. That is a too gloomy philosophy of life. Much depends upon how school days are spent. For this reason may I urge every boy and girl to use well the time allotted them in school that they may enjoy, to the fullest extent possible, the most valu- ble things of life that come in later years. C. G. LEITER Superintendent of Schools
