CLASS PROPHECY In the year of 1971, each of the 1951 graduates received an invitation to visit Mrs. Fred Rayburn, formerly Margaret Oyler. She, her family of three children, and Fred reside near Converse. The first guest to arrive was Don Maggart. Margaret was surprised when Don informed her that he and Harold Berglan weren't speaking. Harold had married im ediately following his graduation without Don's consent. Don didn't stay long because his baby-sitting business kept him occupied. On his way out he met Betty Lenon. He stopped long enough to learn that she had never married because she couldn't make up her mind. Betty had hardly enter d when a loud noise was heard and who should appear but Jim Larimore and wife, the former Phyllis Sowash They were accompanied by their twin sons The noise' Margaret and Betty had heard was Jim's old '37 Chevie Fe had never been able to buy another car since he remained at the Sample Shell Station after graduation Next to arrive was Leon Olinger He and Movaline had decided two could live as cheaol as one, so they had married shortly after her graduation Leon is now an executive on Wall Street in downtown Jalapa Mona Bridenthal arrived next, talking as usual Paul Oden, her hen peeked husband, followed They confessed to their secret marriage during their senior year They told their friends they had been touring the country on bicycles Tom Pearson was the next guest He is co starring with Jerry Lewis on television He still dates Shirley Miller since he can't make himself take the fatal step of getting married A knock on the door drew our attention from Tom and we saw that Dave Rogers and his family had arrived Dave proudly showed us his new Cadillac convertible and house trailer Dave works on the Pennsylvania Railroad as a track man While we were admiring Dave's car Professor D F Carmack came After five years of hard study Darrell had become a professor is a commercial teacher in Marion College He never married A messenger boy arrived with a telegram concerning Harold Berglan and his wife It stated that his wife had just had a baby and they would be unable to attend the reunion J R Hodson, Phil Howard, and Tnad 'iller arrived together The latter two had made good in Hollywood The boys informed us that their wlves had stowned in Chicago to shop and would arrive later is successful radio star He has a daily interview show at Fourth and Vine Streets in Amboy He sells Hadacol on the side Zenith Artherhults looks Quite becoming ln her uniform as she arrives She enllsted in the Javes and has made this her life career Previous plans were that the group was to dine with Mr and Hrs John ltzrot Hrs ltzroth was the former Suzanne Blake We left for ltzroth's house After dlnner we talked over old times and made clans for another 'I'-41-s. CLASS HISTORY On August 28, l9lp7, a group of thirty-seven green pupils crossed the threshold of CHS as Freshmen. These supposed knowledge seekers were: Zenith Artherhults, Barbara Baker, Harold Berglan, Suzanne Blake, Fredric Boesing, Mona Bridenthal, George Chunn, Annabelle Grabow, Betty Harbert, Loretta Harlan, Wayne Harlan, Frances Hicks, J.R. Hodson, Phil Howard, Paul Kelly, Virginia Kiger, Mark Knox, Jim Larimore, Betty Lenon, Don Maggart, Warren Melton, Lynn McClain, Thad Miller, Paul Oden, Leon Olinger, Oral Overman, Dave Rogers, Irma Sears, Max Snodgrass, Phyllis Sowash, Phyllis Stepler, and Pauline Swingle Darrell Carmack, John Clawson, Margaret Oyler, Tom Pearson, and Kermit Warren entered our class from Mier Ne were initi ated with no casualties, and were finally full fledged members of Converse Jackson Township School Suzanne Blake represented our class in the Bordermen Relays queen's court When we entered our Sophomore year we found that Annabelle Grabow, Betty Harbert, Paul Kelly, Irma Sears, and Max Snodgrass had wlthdrawn for various reasons During the year Loretta Harlan moved to Swayzee Barbara Baker and Virginia Kiger moved to Kokomo Margaret Oyler was our representative in the queen's court Our Junior year rolled around before we knew it and we were upper classmen Christobel Klntner entered our class from Kokomo George Chunn, Frances Hicks,Lynn McClain, Oral Overman,Paullne Swingle, and Kermit warren withdrew from our class Our officers were President, Phil Howard, vice president, Warren Mel ton, secretary, Tom Pearson, treasurer, Don Maggart lies Reynolds was our sponsor One of our major problems was making money for future needs We became high pressure salesmen Selling magazines, cushions, eversharps, and re freshments at the ball games were among our projects We also sponsored a number of skating parties Our play, Ne Shook The Family Tree, directed by Mrs Swingle save us stage experience 'This was a success and everyone enjoyed participating Phyllis Sowash was a member of the track queen's court Mark Knox was elected cheer leader We held the Junior Senior reception at Marion We dined at Fmely's and afterwards attended a movie When the Senior roll was called we found that Christobel Kintner had transferred to Sweetser High School warren Melton, Mark Knox, Fredric Boes ing, and John Clawson had withdrawn,the latter three enlistlng in the Navy Our class numb red seventeen Phil Howard was elected president, Harold Berplan, vlce president, Tom class Je found ourselves busler than ever e published eight issues of The Porcupine with tne assistance of Miss namllton and Miss Reynolds Publishing the annual, The Borderlite, proved to be a greater task than we had an ticlpated In Nov mber we had our gr duation pictures taqen at Indianapolis Suzanne Blake was hostess for our Christmas class party Mr Rayburn was our Guest of honor Pifts were exchanged and a nice time was enyoyedby all After the holidays we were faced with producing the Senior play chose Pobgoblin House, a mystery comedy, directed by Mr Smith It was a success J R Hodson was elected cheer leader Margaret Oyler became Mrs Fred Rayburn Zenith lrtherhults, Suzanne Blake J R Fodson, and Betty Lenon com pleted the twelve vears of school in Converse Jackson Township School 0 . 1 , - - 3 - I O l 1 O e Q , O Q 0 O U ' - ' Q U . .
