However, a young, courageous, hard working group of boys reported for practice with a determination and will to win that would not be denied. After dropping two of the first four games they fought back to win the last six in a row. In the final game with the Championship of the Miami- Howard County baseball league hanging in the balance our boys were supreme, they out played and out fought the strong Eastern team to defeat them 7-5. Key members of this Championship team that will be greatly missed next year are: Don Maggart's power hitting and all around play, Phil Howard's steady left arm and genial personality, Tom Pearson's hustle and timely hitting, Dave RogerQ'b1g bat and determination to win, and Thad Miller's fielding and humorous chatter. The uBordermen Relays,n thanks to community loyalty, were held the third straight year. Three hundred twenty-seven boys from twenty-seven schools entered this meet. For the first time Converse was host to the Miami County track meet. Most of our neighboring schools came to our town for meets. Our track team for 1950 lacked balance but finished a close second in the County. Some outstanding performances were recorded as Junle Slaughter broke school and County records in the 100 yard dash, high hurdles, low hurdles and aided Dave Rogers, Thad Miller, and Wayne Sherick in the record breaking half-mile relay team. Thad Miller broke the school and County record in the 220 yard dash and the school record in the pole-vault. Wayne Sherick broke the school record in the high jump. Only three lettermen were lost by graduation and prospects for 1951 are the best in years. 41 's 8--P Arg? ,,., 'L ,T pw f av' www ' ' ' 53 ' W gm' ' 'xx-'I UVB in AJS? fl YA 1-nga uw... vff C gg V113 Zu bl-I f if iixarw ?
