Class H zstory lt was a blue Monday for mama bat what a day for us For at least a year we had been antumpatmg that fxrst day of school We came fr om all sectmons of Converse There was Vlrgxma Bly Janet Cochran Jack Garber Elmer Johnson Jun1or Slaughter Mary Stambaugh Phyllls Thompson and the cute l1ttle boy w1th dark haxr Tom Smlth Phyllls Thompson knew her ABC s It was Janet Cochran and Jun1or Slaughter however who kept the room 1n a Constant txtter Does anyone remember the t1me Phyllls had to stand 1n the hall because she pulled a certa1n l1ttle gxrl s pxgtaxls That would be the day we had a v1s1tor Harold Berglan I suppose we were as thr1lled over our flrst report cards as any chlld 15 We thought our teacher was just out of thxs world We even managed to be promoted to the second grade Mrs Carvey was stlll our teacher for ln those days the faculty was somewhat l1m1ted and each grade teacher taught two grades About Chrmstmas of our th1rd year Phyll1s moved to Pomt Isabel Blonde blue eyed Gladys Brookshmre moved to Converse from Mar1on and entered our class that fall A year after she left Phyllls came back We remamed the same group through the fxfth grade Durmg the wmter that we were 1n the slxth grade Mar1lyn Brewer came from Logansport and a week later Jean McCollom came from Gary Indmana For Mar1lyn and Jun1or xt was love at f1rst s1ght That romance lasted for three years Remember the t1me Mar1lyn dropped her hankle to see Kmghthood Was St1ll In Flower? Mark Knox was her farthful 'P swam Do you remember those eraser games when all of the g1rls Chose JUHIOTQ Mar1lyn and Janet were our yell leaders ln walked could It be tW1hS9 Yes It was tw1ns Wanda Lou and Waneta Mendell arr1ved from Morgantown We 1n1t1ated them 1nto our class by choos1ng them as our yell leaders Do you re member those Jun1or Hrgh ball games? In 1945 Converse became a Consol1dated School That year Wayne Sherxck Bobb1e F1sher and Bob Murray entered our class from Amboy At the begmmng of our Freshman year Donna Pr1tchett Earlene Renbarger and Phylhs Wh1tlock became members of our class Arlene Kelsey came from North Grove Claude Dav1son moved to Converse from Sharpsv1lle Arlene became one of the yell leaders for the h1gh school team As a class we remamed the same durmg our Sophomore year Arlene Janet and Mar1lyn were elected yell leaders Dur1ng our Jun1or year J1m Barton became one of us Phylhs Thompson was elected the Bordermen Relay Queen Mary Stambaugh was one of her attendants Arlene Janet and Mar1lyn were elected yell leaders agam We presented the comedy h1t Peck s Bad Boy It was only natural that the leadxng roles be played by Bobb1e F1sher and J1mm1e Barton Wanda Lou Mendell was elected Presldent of the class Wayne Sherxck V1ce Pr esxdent Jean McCollom Secretary and Bobb1e F1sher Treasurer Our Semor year Bobb1e F1sher was elected Pres1dent Jun1or Slaughter V1ce Presldent Jean McCollom Secretary and Jmm Barton Treasurer We presented the play Dear Papa Our d1rector was Mr Glenn Smxth We ed1ted the school paper The Porcuplne and the annual The Borderhte It was durlng the Semor year that Janet Cochran became Mrs Dale Artherhaults There have been other members ln our class but they have dropped out from t1me to t1me for warxous reasons 16 I Y 1 0 - .
