We were well represented on all the varsity and suhvarsity teams .... But our eyes weren,t on sports only. The Purley Voo, Palmetto Players and the Concept laoasted a list of sophomores. Those of us who arrived on the train or hus promptly found ourselves hustled into the capalmle hands of Mr. Clarlc, and deposited at Miss Geels porch with a Hood of happy, shrielcing girls pouring out to meet us, llinging their arms around old students, and directing us to Miss Gee, our college mother. Those of us hrought hy our parents felt loneliness sweep through us as we watched the familiar family car drive away. However, this feeling was soon smothered hy stinted conversations with our new roommates. Many days passed hefore we learned the Way from third floor East Wilson to the Little Shop or from the post ottice to Main Hall, hut eventually stairs and shortcuts were traveled automatically. ' Classesl How would we ever learn where to go and when? And we thought that Con- verse was a girl's schooll For the first time, looys hecame a part of freshman classes. They made these classes seem informal, like high school. Rat Vveelcl As the year swept hy, freshmen tool: deeper and deeper parts in college lite. We began worlc on our own puhlication, We, the Freshmen, our own songs hecame a part of us, and we glowed with pride for our own athletic teams and representatives in student activ- ities. ln true Converse spirit we thrilled to the Junior-Freshman Wedding, Christmas celehrations, May Day, and were spiritually refreshed with morning watch and vespers. Now that we are almost sophomores, we can loolc haclc, amused, at our then-serious hull sessions, the confusion we made in the P. O., and the soherness of exam time, and we can sing Standing with Open Arms, and Tell Me Why the lvy Twinesf' in voices whose existence is a vital, lasting part of the Converse tradition. ilk 1.- 7l Firsl ROW: Jlllifl Pl'0Cl0l' ACIFIIUS.
