ON CHILDREN And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said , Speak to us of Children. And he said: Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you , And though they are with you yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of to- morrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them , but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward not tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your chil- dren as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon his path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer 's hand be for gladnessg For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable. Having spent three years building loyalties and friendships in another school, they realized in their junior year that they would 'have to null up roots and spend their last year in a new environment. The promise of Contoocook Valley Regional High School they knew would not be realized during their stay here, but they have hoped for better times than they had known. In the new school, with much of the atmosphere the same as school had always been, some felt somehow that they had been forgotten in the name of progress, It took a while, but soon reports from teachers told what a terrific group this class is. One teacher said I really feel that these people are my equals. They're sincere, honest, and con- cernedg they care a great deal about their school, their friends, their teachers, their whole world. In short, where an example of concern needed to be shown, the Seniors showed it. Many of them have younger brothers and sisters who they know will reap the benefits which will come after this class has graduated. It is to their credit that the Class of 1971 has performed well. To the Class of 1972 the torch is passed. Carry it well. Neal A. Wiggin Princip al CHARLES HAMEL Assistant Principal MX. ,mx X ,,i. Kb ioHN FAUST Vocational Co-ordinator 1 Quasar XV 555. Morning cold was hard. Zorna's motions slowed. I wanted to be with her more, but trivia trapped me. The other day I visited her again. There she lay, in the middle of her web - still. I reached to touch her. She did not move, and I knew she was dead. I thought: when most things are dead they are frightening, but Zorna was beautiful - delicate and sensitive. I realized that there would be other spiders, but none would be the same as Zorna. In spring, Zorna 's spiders would come to life. Many would leave, and many would die. Damn you Nature. Led by their co-captains Bill Bishop and Tod Silegy, the Cougars stunned their first nine opponents with decisive victories. Along with the strength of their big man, Dick Blood, - the quickness of Paul Boule and the overall fine play of Jeff Wheeler, the Cougars came up with a formula that proved un- beatable. However, their hopes suffered a major setback when Bill Bishop ended his high school career with a serious knee injury. After regrouping and putting his bench to work, Coach Richard let his reserves prove themselves. After losing four of their next six games, the Cougars went on to win their final five, losing only to Goffstown at the state tournament in Durham.
